Introduction: Homemade Pencil Holder

You might be wondering to yourself, "why make a pencil holder if I already have one", or "what is the use for this", and I'm here to say that this is just for your convenience. A pencil holder is a great way to stock up your pen and pencil supply especially if you're using it for reusable purposes. For this simple project I used the following materials:

  • A tin can
  • Colorful 8.5 in. x 11 in. paper
  • Red acrylic paint
  • A paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Invisible tape

The purpose of this project is to start reusing materials such as plastics, and metals that can harm the environment and animals inhabiting areas where the stress is greater. The idea of using a can as a pencil holder is a great way to save the environment and create something useful for your everyday life.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

For this project you will need:

  • A can
  • Colored Paper
  • Acrylic Paint
  • A paint brush
  • Invisible tape
  • Scissors

Step 2: Finding a Can

You may use any can, in this instance I decided to use a bean can. Make sure to thoroughly clean the can and peel off the labels (you do not have to worry about the sticky residue).

Step 3: Pick a Color

From your assorted color collection, choose the color you wish to decorate your pencil holder.

Step 4: Apply the Paper

Fold your paper along the can and then cut to the appropriate size, cut off any excess paper. Once the paper is fully measured use the tape to reinforce the paper.

Step 5: Decorate With Paint

This step is extra, you can do this if you want to fully decorate your soon to be masterpiece.
