Introduction: How to Make the UltraVengeance Paper Airplane

About: Paper airplane maker: 400+ designs so far and more in development!

Fast, long range and small, the UltraVengeance is an improved variant of the AeroVengeance paper airplane featuring refinements developed for the Turbo UltraVulcan. The UltraVengance is meant to complement the similar StarSabre interceptor paper airplane.

Following the success of the Turbo UltraVulcan, I decided to upgrade aircraft related to it with the new refinements to improve their performance as well. Because of the Vengeance family's close relationship to the Vulcan family, I decided to begin by improving the AeroVengeance. The basic design and planform of the aircraft remained the same and the prototype was ready very quickly. After proving itself capable in flight testing, the UltraVengeance was cleared for publication.

TAA USAF Designation: A190-4

Step 1: Materials

Required:
1 Piece of 8.5 by 11 inch Paper

Tape

Scissors

Pencil

Ruler

Step 2: Length and Corner Folding; Cutting the Trailing Edge

Take your paper and fold it along its length. Then pull the corners on one end and fold them into the center. Then unfold the pair and cut them away along the crease. You may then discard these pieces. Proceed to the other side and make corner folds here.

Step 3: Nose Folding

Pull the creases of the corner folds inward toward the center crease as shown. Once this is completed, pull the training edges of the corner folds inward toward the center fold. After this has been done, pull the tip of the nose down over these folds. Undo the canard folds and tuck them as shown. Pull the airfoil folds outward as shown, then tuck them as well. Pull the triangular tip of the nose backward and tuck the canard folds into them. Pull the blunt tip of the nose back to the sharp trailing edge and crease. Measure one inch back from this crease, and fold the nose forward again. Then fold along the center line again. Unfold the nose fold and pull the corners inward as shown. Then pull the fold back forward.

Step 4: Canard, Wing, Winglet and Tail Folding

Fold the fuselage in half and fold down the canards as shown. Measure 0.875 inches above the center fold at the trailing edge and make a mark. From this mark, fold the wings down parallel with the center fold of the aircraft. Measure 0.625 inches in from the wingtip along the trailing edge of the airfoils, then fold the winglets parallel to the fuselage after folding the leading edges inward and under the nose fold as shown. Unfold the wings after making the creases, then fold the tail up as shown. Once you have made the fold, unfold the aircraft and then pull the tail through the fuselage.

Step 5: Taping

Apply tape to the nose and other parts of the aircraft where designated. Once taping is complete, add sufficient anhedral to the wings for the winglets to touch the ground. This will complete the aircraft.

Step 6: Flight

Like the AeroVengeance, the UltraVengeance is quite fast, and because of its small wings, has very high wing loading. Launches should be done at moderately high speed at a neutral or positive attitude. Additional applicable surfaces include flaps, elevators, ailerons, air brakes, and a trimmable rudder. Enjoy!
