Introduction: How to Build a Propeller Car

About: The Beta Lab at UC Davis studies how young people learn and develop through participation in making and the Maker Movement. We investigate the nature of learning that occurs during extended, youth-driven maker…

This is how to create an easy propeller car at home that you can create one yourself. We have a video tutorial on how to create a propeller car on YouTube. After you create your own car, share it on social media with #HomeMakeKit so we can see how it turned out!

Supplies

Wheels, Skewers, Fan, Straw, Tape, Motor, Battery, and Anything for the body

Step 1:

Create the base of the car using anything you want (popsicle sticks, cardboard)

Step 2:

Attach straws to the body of the car. This allows the wheels to turn.

Step 3:

Attach one wheel to the skewer then stick the skewer through the straw and attach the second wheel. Then repeat.

Step 4:

Attach the fan to the motor and check if the fan will hit the ground when added to the car. If it will, build a structure to raise it up (this could be out of anything).

Step 5:

Create your circuit. Attach one of the wires to one side of the battery; then attach the other wire to the other side of the battery. Secure it with tape or a rubber band. The motor will work if you connect either wire to either side of the battery. But when you put the wires on the motor one way, you will create more air. Try connecting the wires to either side to see what gives off the most air. This will help your car go faster.

Step 6:

Attach the circuit to the car body.

Step 7:

Now you have a basic car!

Here are some questions to think about.

1. How can you make your car faster?

2. How can you make it look cooler?

3. Can you make other things with the same supplies?

We hope you enjoyed this project! We also have a video tutorial of this project and many more on Youtube Here is the link to this project:
