About: A place for insightful information on overall health, especially for the skin and hair!

Dandruff build up can be a nuisance but we’ll show you some steps to permanently keep it at bay. This is useful for people with mild to moderate dandruff who for whatever reason do not want to use a medicated shampoo.

Whilst using an anti-fungal shampoo is a quick way to stop dandruff in most cases, it doesn’t work for all. It can also be an irritant and have unpleasant side effects.

Dandruff is a build up of dead skin cells coupled with inflamed skin but there are certain triggers such as a high sugar diet that can cause flare ups. This difference in triggers is why dead skin cells, present in everyone’s scalp, doesn’t lead to an itchy scalp for everyone.

Supplies

Scalp Massager

Coconut Oil

Apple Cider Vinegar

Step 1: Use a Scalp Massager

It’s helpful to first break down any existing build up of dead skin cells by using a scalp massager. It’s best to make this a part of your routine as it has many benefits for the hair.

Take time to gently massage across the whole scalp, including the sides and back. Don’t be too forceful or aggressive, it should feel enjoyable.

Step 2: Do a Vinegar Rinse

Take apple cider vinegar and dilute it in water with a ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 (if sensitive) of vinegar to water.

You want to submerge your whole scalp in the vinegar and let it sit for at least an hour. Repeat this process 2-3x a week, this will help reduce inflammation from any skin cell build up.

Step 3: Coconut Oil Massage

Take 5-10ml of organic coconut oil and apply directly in the scalp. Use a scratching motion to apply into the scalp to ensure it is making maximum contact where build up occurs.

Avoid using too much as coconut oil has a strong drying effect, if you strip your scalp of all the oil it can lead to further inflammation. Therefore, you want to wash it off after 30mins to an hour.

You can also repeat this 2-3x a week.
