Introduction: How to Make 3 Types of Dangling Earrings
In this Instructable, you will learn how to make three styles of dangling earings:
- Beaded earring
- Origami pendant earring
- Washer pendant earring
Step 1: Materials
Items
- Washers or pendant/beads/paper
- Earring hooks
- 24 Gauge steel wire or string (I use around three inches)
Tools
- Pliers
- Glue
- Scissors
Step 2: Preparing Wire
If using string: Thread the string through the hole at the bottom of the hook and tie a knot, securing the hook in place.
If using wire: Twist a loop using pliers and put it near the base of the hook. Straighten out the wire below the loop.
Step 3: Completing the Beaded Earring
String on your beads and cut the end of the wire off, leaving about a centimeter. Then, take your pliers and twist the remaining end and flatten it, locking the beads on the wire. Make another the same way, and you have finished your earrings!
Step 4: Pendant Earring Part 1
Take your washer and trace it out on a piece of paper. You can glue it on the paper beforehand if you want, but you still need to cut out the center.
Step 5: Attaching Design
Cut out the design. Be sure to also cut out the center, which can be done by slightly bending the circle in half and then cutting. Then, attach it to the washer with some glue. Sanding the surface of the washer can help the adhesive stick better on the washer.
Step 6: Finishing the Earring
Complete the earring by sliding the designed washer onto the wire or string sideways and tie a knot if you are using string on top of the washer to complete the earring no secure it in place. If you are using wire, bend the free end of the wire to the end with the hook and secure it in the usual way, twisting it together and locking it in.
Step 7: Origami Pendant
Fold an origami pendant with a design of your choice. Common examples include dragons, cranes, flowers, etc.
Step 8: Completing
Poke the wire through the origami pendant in an area where it will stay secure, but won't ruin the pendant. Then, twist the end and secure it so that the hook can't fall off. If you are using string, then thread the string into a needle and thread it through the pendant and tie a knot, keeping the pendant and hook together.
