Introduction: How to Make a Dice Chest

Today I will teach you how to make a simple chest for holding your D&D dice and other gear such as miniatures and pens.

Step 1: Required Materials

You will need a saw, a drill, a small and a large Phillips screwdriver, screws, a set of hinges, and a latch. You will also need enough wood to create a 14x6 1/2 inches box (the exact measurements are provided in the next step).

WARNING: Sharp tools are needed for this project so make sure to use proper eye protection and practice safe use of the tools.

Step 2: Cutting the Wood

The lid of the box will need to be 14 inches long and 6 1/2 inches wide.

The sides of the box will be 14 inches long and 1 3/4 inches wide.

You will need to cut two end pieces that will be 4 1/2 inches long and 2 inches wide.

The bottom of the box will be 12 inches long and 4 1/2 inches wide.

Make sure to exercise caution when cutting the wood. There are multiple factors such as knots and the grain of the wood that can make cutting difficult without the use of power tools.

Step 3: Assembling the Box

Place the bottom of the box down and put the two side pieces next to it making sure to leave enough space on the ends for the two end pieces then screw them into place. Then place the two end pieces in the space between the two side pieces and screw them into place. Make sure to add a screw that goes into the end pieces from the side after attaching them.

Step 4: Connecting the Lid

Take the hinges and place them about 1 1/2 inches from the edge of the box. Make sure to align the middle hinges between the two pieces of wood then screw them into place.

Step 5: Attaching the Latch

Align the two pieces of the latch with the center of the side of the box that does not have the hinges then screw into place.

Step 6: Finished Product

Now that the box is complete you can customize it to fit your taste. You could add some felt lining, a foam insert with cutouts to hold your dice, or you could use it to store miniatures along with your dice.
