Introduction: How to Make a Glowing Nuka Cola Coaster
Here is a quick tutorial on how to make a Nuka Cola Cap coaster for all of your Fallout fans!
Step 1: Collect Your Supplies...
For this project you will need the following:
- A coaster (this one is a cork coaster from the Dollar Store)
- White Paint
- Red Paint
- Glow Powder (Also from the Dollar Store)
- Various Paint Brushes
- Rags or Paper Towels
- A mixing tray of some sort (Not Pictured)
- Transfer Paper (Not Pictured) (Optional)
Step 2: Prime Your Coaster...
The first step you need to take is to prime your coaster with a coat of wet paint. It does not need to be perfect as this coat is mainly being set down so that the other coats of paint appear more vibrant.
It is possible to skip this step and have a more desaturated final paint coat as this is based off a post nuclear fallout world!
Allow this primer coat of paint to dry entirely before continuing on to the next step, or else your paint will have a pink tint to it rather than a deep red.
Step 3: Paint the Coaster...
Next you will want to paint the coaster a bright shade of red to match that of the Nuka Cola caps from the Fallout games.
Allow this coat to dry completely before continuing to paint or your next layer of paint will have a pinkish hue.
Step 4: Mix Your Glowing Paint
Using your mixing tray add a two to one mixture of white paint and glowing powder and mix well. If the mixture is too thick to paint with add more white paint.
Test this mixture in the dark. If it is not glowing add more glowing powder.
Be sure to mix this thoroughly or there may be streaks or clumps that do not have glowing powder and therefore will not glow.
Step 5: Paint the Logo...
The next and final step is to paint the Nuka Cola logo on the dry red coaster using the white paint/ glow powder mixture. Due to the nature of the mixture it may require multiple layers to get it looking right.
If you do not feel confident in painting this freehand you can also use the transfer paper to trace the logo onto the coaster and then fill in the traced logo with paint.
Step 6: Final Reveal...
Here are the finished piece that made. The glowing one does glow brighter in real life but it was hard to take a picture in the dark of it.
