Introduction: How to Make an Apple Swan

How to Make an Apple Swan

These can be great decorations for extra decoration in the centre of fruit platters or to decorate a fancy meal at home. They look quite impressive if done correctly.

Supplies

Supplies You will need:

  • An apple (any type
  • A sharp knife (blade must be longer than the apple)
  • Two chopsticks
  • A cutting board (optional-unless you want to wreck your counter!)

Step 1: Step 1

Use a knife to cut the apple on a 70-degree angle and cut all the way through.

Step 2: Step 2

We are going to use the half that doesn't have the stem on it and set aside two apple seeds for later.

Note: While cutting this apple swan please go slowly and if you are under 13 without proficient cutting skills, have adult supervision. :)

Step 3: Step 3

Now, we will start cutting the wing. Place one chopstick in front of the apple and one behind it. Don't cut down the centre of the apple, but instead slightly to the right, like the example above. Cut straight down and the chopstick will stop the cut.

Step 4: Step 4

Next, cut along the chopsticks and stop once you reach the other cut and the apple slice pops out.

Step 5: Step 5

Take out piece you just cut out and put it on its side then position the knife 1 cm away from the edge and cut straight down until you hit the chopsticks.

Step 6: Step 6

Flip the apple (as shown in the photo above) and position the knife again 1 cm away from the edge and cut down to the chopsticks.

Step 7: Step 7

Once the apple slice pops out, repeat the steps with the smaller piece again and place them into the apple. Repeat those steps on the other side.

Step 8: Step 8

Puzzle the slices back into the apple to make it look like there are no cuts.

Step 9: Step 9

Slide the slices each back about one cm from another like the example in the picture above.

Step 10: Step 10

Using the other half of the apple, cut from the top so it looks something like this. You can play around with the angles until you're satisfied.

Step 11: Step 11

Like the example, cut out a piece from the centre of the body. Now cut the piece from the other half of the apple in half like shown above.

Step 12: Step 12

Try your best to shape the piece with the knife into something that looks like the neck and head of a swan. If you mess up on this part, it's ok because you have another half already cut!

Step 13: Step 13

Stick the head into the body making adjustments as needed. Lastly, stick in one apple seed on each side of the head as to where the eye would be.
