Introduction: How to Make an Ojo De Dios (God's Eye)

  • Make sure to read all instructions carefully
  • Any type of sticks can be used, as long as they are similar in size and length
  • If you don’t have a hot glue gun, regular Elmer’s glue will do the trick
  • Keep the hot glue gun out of reach of children
  • The more colors of yarn you have, the more vibrant the design will be
  • Have fun!

Step 1: Gather Supplies

  • 1 pair of scissors
  • Hot glue gun (with glue sticks)
  • Two wooden sticks
  • Balls of yarn (of your choice in colors)

Step 2: Glue Sticks Together

Using the hot glue gun, place a small amount of glue on the middle of one stick, and place the other stick on top of it, forming a plus sign. Wait until the glue fully dries.

Step 3: Choose Yarn

Pick the yarn of your choice to begin the God’s eye. Once you have your strand of yarn, glue the end of the yarn to the back of the sticks at the center of where the sticks overlap. Wait until the glue fully dries.

Step 4: Begin Weaving

Pull your piece of yarn to the front and pull it over to the opposite corner. Wrap the yarn around the back of the stick.

Step 5: Start Forming the "eye"

Pull the yarn to the opposite corner, forming an X across the front side of the cross. Repeat the process several more times to secure the sticks together. End with the yarn on the backside.

Step 6: Complete Forming the "eye"

Once you have secured the sticks, bring the yarn across the front of the stick to the right. Wrap it around the back and bring it to the front of the next stick, going counterclockwise, creating a loop of yarn around each stick. Repeat until you wish to change colors.

Step 7: Choose a New Color

With the yarn on the backside of the cross, tie the new colored yarn to the original, cut your previous strand of yarn and glue the knot to the sticks. Continue with your new piece of yarn.

Step 8: Continue Weaving

With your new piece of yarn, wrap the sticks the same way as explained in step 6 until you wish to change colors.

Step 9: Change Yarn Colors

Repeat steps 7 and 8 and continue weaving with your third color of yarn.

Step 10: Finish Weaving

Once you are satisfied with the size of your God’s Eye, place the yarn on the back side of the sticks. Cut the yarn and glue the end to the back side of the cross.

Step 11: Create Loop and Finish the God’s Eye

Cut about four inches of yarn and tie the two ends together, making a loop. Glue the knot and loose ends to the back of one stick at the top. This will allow you to hang your God’s Eye on the wall.
