In this simple tutorial, I will teach you, step by step on how to multicolor 3D print!

Hope you enjoy!

Step 1: What You Need!

What you need!

  1. Two or more filaments
  2. 3D model that you want to print
  3. single extruder printer
  4. Way to control your print

Make sure you have an idea of where you want to start the other color(s)

Step 2: Start Your Print

Once you start you print, keep an eye on it.

Step 3: Pause the Print

Pause your print once it comes to the layer you wanted to start the other color. You can pause the print with the control panel. This might be on your printer or on your computer.

Make sure once you pause your print, the nozzle moves over automatically. Or you can move it with the control panel, just remember how far you moved the extruder!

Step 4: Change Filament

Once your print is paused and the extruder is moved. Start changing the filament the same way you would if your printer was off. You might need to adjust the nozzle temperature based on what material you're switching to.

Step 5: Changing Filament Part 2

Once you change the filament to another color. Make sure you extrude the new filament, this way you will know that the new filament will cleanly come out.

Step 6: Resume Print

Now resume your print!

NOTE: If you moved the extruder over at all, return it back to its original position. For instance, if you moved the extruder 100 mm right then put it 100mm left. If the extruder moved automatically when you paused, then you should be fine and don't have to move the extruder.

Step 7: Printing With New Color

Watch at least two layers go down with your new color. This way you can ensure it went well.

Step 8: Printing Continue

Now be amazed by your new multicolor print.

You can keep changing the colors if you really wanted to.

Step 9: You're Done

Now carefully remove the print!
