It's time to move on to stage two of creating synthetic dreadlocks! In this video Doc will show you the differences between steam and iron sealing so you can choose which works best for your dreadlocks!

For this tutorial you will need:

A backcombed dreadlock (see the stage 1 video for creating synth dreads)
Iron
Steamer
Damp Towel
Tension Clamp

Ready? Steady? Lets go!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

If your looking for a direct comparison to see which sealing method will work best for you, gather your iron, steamer, damp towel, and dreadlocks (secured with a tension clamp) so you can do a side-by-side comparison when you're finished.

Step 2: Ironing

Clamp the end of your dreadlock to a stable surface. Lay a damp towel beneath your dreadlock. For ironing, you will need to compact your dreadlock (otherwise you will end up with flat spots on your dread). You'll do this by twisting the dread before covering it with the damp towel and setting the iron on top for a few moments to seal it. You'll need to rotate your dreadlock a number of times and continue this process until you reach the end of your dread.

Step 3: Steaming

Steaming is a good method if you're looking to keep lofty dreads instead of keeping it compact, plus the steps are super simple. Clamp your dread down to a stable surface, put a dry towel beneath the dread to catch any drops from the steamer. Steam all the way around your dread until you reach the end to seal, if you want the "twisted" look, you can twist your dread as you go along.
