Introduction: Install WAD Files on Any Wii

In this instructable, you will learn how to install a wad file onto your Nintendo Wii. A wad file is usually a file that, once installed, will become a channel, but can also be a patch or something else of the sort like the cios wad file. It is helpfull to know how to install wad files in case some of the channels you bought got deleted. In my case, i caught my brother trying to update my wii and yanked the power cables out of the wall, effectively erasing everything on my wii. Now i know what your thinking, "OK, once i figure out how to do this, i am going to find a website that distributes wad files and install them to my hearts content." Wrong. Even though the laws get a bit shadey when dealing with downloaded pirated content, DO NOT DOWNLOAD A WAD FILE YOU DID NOT ORIGINALY PAY FOR!!! if you do and get caught, it is not my fault. if you get a banner brick, it is also not my fault, though if you listen to me exactly and only download wad files for your region wii, that wont happen. If you are still worried, skip to the last step first to figure out how to install starfall, an application that will allow you to boot the twilight hack and remove the bad wad.

Step 1: Materials Needed

For this instructable to work, you need:

A Computer
An SD card
An SD card reader for your computer
A Homebrew Capable Wii (Go here to learn how to run homebrew on your wii)
WAD Manager (link here) and the knowledge on how to run it

Step 2: Preparing the Memory Card

To properly prepare the sd card (i assume you already formatted it, if not follow the link in the supplies list to thundaboys instructable.) you need to make a folder called "apps" without the quotes and a folder called "wad" without the quotes. well the note function for pictures isnt working on my computer, but i figure you get the gist of what im trying to tell you. first pic is root of sd card. 2nd is apps folder. now this is my apps folder, and unless you have done homebrew before, you should only have wad manager 1.3 in here, as you can see highlighted by the mouse. 3rd is wad folder, my wad is legend of zelda ocarina of time master quest. i chose that wad because, since nintendo didnt make it, they cant call piracy on you for stealing it. also when you download the wad manager, you copy the wad manager folder to your apps folder, and if the dol file is not named boot.dol, go into the wad manager folder and rename it to boot.dol. here is the link for the masterquest wad: http://rapidshare.com/files/118941123/VC_ZeldaOoTMasterQuest2LangNTSC_Inject.wad

Step 3: On the Wii

Put the SD card in the sd card slot on the wii, then open up your preffered method of launching homebrew. launch the wad manager, then press a untill it tells you to choose your wad file. press plus to install, and minus to uninstall. uninstalling is good if you get a banner brick. it is how to make your wii normal again so dont delete the wad file untill you are sure it works fine. once it is done installing, press the button to restart the wii, and viola! you have a brand new channel!! unfortunately, my camera ran out of batteries and i only got one shot in. i will take more and upload them later. basically, after you load the wad manager, you press a to continue. you press a to select your source, in this case the front sd card slot. and you press plus to install the wad, than you press home to restart the wii after you are done.

Step 4: Starfall, Aka Wii Protection Program

i think i am going to have to wait untill i can get my camera charged before i can properly tell you how to install starfall. it is pretty confusing and i will also download firefox which might fix the note box problem with the pics. i am collaborating this instructable with thundaboy1047, or at least i will be once i figure out how to add him as a collaborator.. but if you follow my instructaions and use this wad and use a wii bought in usa, you dont have anything to worry about. Hoped this helped you, i will give it more pics later. Here is the download for starfall. it is a rar file so if you dont already have an archive manager that supports rar, google winrar. it will work for now but its only a 40 day free trial and if your looking for something more permanent, may i suggest unpacker. google it also. without further a do, i bring to you Starfall!! unfortunately, if you have one of those homebrew hackjhobs that is supposed to work with 3.3 or 3.4, starfall will break your wii. simple as that. the thing will never work again. or so ive heard.. just dont try it. only install this on a 3.2 system menu, and it only patches the system menu, not deletes it, so if you install a new cios you will need to reactivate all of your hacks. to install, put in your apps filder a folder named starfall with the boot.dol inside, then launch in homebrew channel. when it tells you to press 1 to continue it wont work. you have to press 1 and 2, twice. i dont know why, but the warning mentions both 1 and 2, plus it says think twice, so just press them both twice in a row. after the installation is done, restart the wii and run starfall again. you will now be able to enable hacks. the ones you will need to recover your wii in case of a banner brick are load recovery menu when press y on first gamecube controller, and the remove rescue menu diagnostic disk check. when you remove the diagnostic check, you can boot any game instead of the one disk with nintendo's signature used to find out how you screwed up your wii, and if you dont have a gamecube controller, buy one. they are cheap, since the gamecube is now obsolete. you can pick one up used from a local gamestop for 5 or 10 dollars. Thanks for reading, and remember, this ible is not done. there are more pictures soon to come, so if you dont feel comfortable doing this, wait till i have pics explaining exactly where to click so easy a 5 year odl could do it. later..
