Introduction: How to Make a Uprint Part in to a Presentable Model.

About: Designer living in Chicago
Today I am going to show you the steps you would need to take in order to make a presentable model for a 3D printed piece of plastic from a Uprint Machine.

Step 1: Step 1

When the part comes out of the printer it is really rough. Think of the part as Plywood layers but plastic . Each layer is .010" thick. So if you have a curved surface you will get steps on the surface.
The first step is to try to knock down the steps. I us a 50 grit sand paper. I sand it till it is smooth and kind of fuzzy.

Step 2: Step 2

After sanding till fuzzy I prime it twice with a sandable Primer. After both layers of the primer is dry, I fill any noticable holes with Bondo Spot puddy.  Once the Bondo is dry I wet sand it till it is smooth

Step 3: Step 3

After wet sanding the part, I Prime and Bondo again to fill any holes i missed.

Step 4:

After the Bondo is completely cured, I once again wet sand till smooth. At this point all the holes should be filled and everything is smooth. So one  more coat of primer and then paint.

Step 5: Final Step

Once the primer is completely dry and you are happy with the finish. you can paint the part any color you would like. After the paint is dry I usually put a clear coat on it to give it a harder coating.
