Introduction: (Ikea Dokument) Letter Tray Drawer

This is a very simple 10-minutes Ikea hack to make a drawer out of an Ikea Dokument Letter Tray.

I have a simple standing desk that does not come with any drawer or storage compartments. Then I realized my unused wire letter trays would make perfect light-weight drawers to keep the clutter off the desk surface ...

Step 1: Step 1: Cut the Letter Tray Frame

Cut the rails out of the letter tray frame using something like a pipe cutter, hacksaw or Dremel etc.

Note the tube height above and below the rails should be consistent to keep the tray leveled when mounted.

Find wood screws that are long enough to go through the tube and bite into the desk surface, and have large enough diameter or use washers to not fall through the tube. I used 1.75 inch screws.

Step 2: Step 2: Mount It

I temporarily taped the rails to the tray to make it easier to mark the hole positions at my desired location under the desk surface. Mark the 4 screw positions, optionally drill a bit of pilot hole, screw the rails in and you're done!

Enjoy a clutter-free workspace.
