Introduction: Indian Naan Bread

This Naan Recipe forms the perfect accompaniment to any Indian curry or is delicious on its own or with some natural yogurt.

Step 1: Ingredients

150ml luke warm milk

2 teaspoons caster sugar

2teaspoons dried active yeast

450g plain flour

1⁄2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

150ml natural yogurt

1 lightly beaten egg

Step 2: Preperation

Put the milk in a bowl. Add 1tsp sugar and the yeast. Stir to mix. Set aside for 15-20 minutes or until the yeast has dissolved and the mixture is frothy.

Sift the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl. Add the remaining 1tsp sugar, the yeast mixture, 2tbsp vegetable oil and yogurt and egg.

Mix to form a ball of dough.Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and smooth (I did this in a stand mixer). Form into a ball. lightly dust a bowl with flour and place the dough in it. Cover the bowl with clingfilm and set aside for 1 hour until doubled in size.

Step 3: Cooking

Punch the dough down and knead until smooth again.

cut in to chunks(size depending on your desired naan size).

stretch the chunks out in to flat oval shapes.

Melt 50g of butter (add a heaped teaspoon of minced garlic for garlic naan)

place some butter in a large fry pan and heat.

once hot place the flattened dough in the pan.

brush the top with butter and flip when the bottom is brown.
