Introduction: Inside the Wall

This project I will building an model house that half open, students can have a easy way to see what's inside of the wall in your house, because the inside normally hide from people and not many people know what's inside, to let them study about buildings more easily. this model is for students in grades 6-8, they should have an basic understanding about design of an house and will have chances to design their own model house.

This project meet the standard number 20

Students in order to select, use and understand construction technologies.

Benchmark I

Buildings generally contain a variety of subsystem

Benchmark G

Structures rest on a foundation

Learning Objectives:

student should know whatsystem that may running inside the wall (water, electric, vent)

students should have an basic understanding about house design (both outside and inside)

Step 1: The Material and Tools

The supply we need: Cardboard box or Cardboard

Glue

Tape

Old wires

Paper

Ruler

Pencil

Cutting knife

Scissor

Straws

Step 2: Basic Concept and Design

Because I already have an cardboard box 10in x 13in x 10in, so I will keep the size, if you have different size of box or you want build your own box, you can change the dimension. The design is use an box as the frame of the house and cut two side to let students can see inside clearly. So, size is flexible.

Step 3: Set Up the Frame

In my case, I need to unfold the box to meet the size,so I use tape to set the frame up. make sure it wont move

Step 4: Cut the Frame

Once you decided what size of hole, you can use knife or scissor to cut it, in my case is 9in x 7in x 7in

Step 5: Set the Wall Up

After you get the frame done, we need work on the wall, you can decide the size bu yourself as long as it will fit, in my case, the size is 7in x 10in. Next you can use those old wire to create the wires on the wall, you can use tape to keep those in place. After you finish the wires, you can place your wall, in my case, the gap between them is 2 inch. you can use glue or tape to keep your wall in place.

Step 6: (Optional) Add More Wires

I add more wires through the wall and floor but its optional depends on your design and needs

Step 7: Add Vent System

Next step is to add the ventilation system, for the vent itself I just use paper and rolled it. Then I use the knife cut an hole to let the vent go through

Step 8: Add Floor and Water System

For the floor and water line. Firstly, you need cut and suitable piece for the floor then add some water lines, I used draws for that, for the main water line my method is the rolled paper , make sure you cut an hole on the box let the paper go through

Step 9: Add the Base for the House

To add base for the house, because my house is rest on a temporary base, so I decided use 4 small boxes, to do that, I draw 20 1in x 1in x1in small square and cut it out. and I use tapes to construct, after that I use glue to glue them under my house.

Step 10: Finish

Add an roof is optional, but I think it will be easier to see without it

Step 11:
