Nabaztag:tag : Installation De La Carte TagTagTag Pour Nabaztag:tag / Installing the TagTagTag Board on Your Nabaztag:tag

Bienvenue et merci de participer à la resurection des Nabaztag !

Ce tutoriel concerne les lapins V2, c'est-à-dire les Nabaztag:tag (et non Nabaztag). Pour reconnaitre un Nabaztag:tag, c'est simple : il a la peau brillante et il a un nombril. Pour les lapins de première génération, Nabaztag donc, un autre tutoriel est disponible.

This instructable is intended for Nabaztag:tag (v2) owners (shiny skin, black belly button). A different instructable is available for Nabaztag (v1) owners (mat skin, no belly button).

Supplies

En plus du kit (carte TagTagTag, Raspberry Pi, carte SD et tournevis), vous aurez besoin :

d'un lapin et de son alimentation
d'un tournevis cruciforme
d'un sèche cheveux(pour décoller la colle)
d'un ordinateur avec lecteur de carte SD ou bien d'un adaptateur USB/carte SD

⚠️ La carte SD livrée avec le lot 2022 des kits est une Micro SD carte sans adaptateur. Vous avez donc besoin d'un adaptateur qui dépend de votre ordinateur (USB ou SD Card) ⚠️

⚠️ Pour la carte TagTagTag édition 2024 : le PCB n'a pas été entièrement dégrappé comme on dit, il faut retirer les deux parties inférieures et supérieures pour que la carte rentre dans le rongeur. ⚠️

Nous vous conseillons de tester l'alimentation de votre lapin avant de tout démonter. Pour cela, brancher la au secteur et à votre Nabaztag, s'il ne se passe rien (pas de Leds allumées, pas de son) c'est qu'elle est probablement défectueuse. Il vous faut en trouver une nouvelle.

In addition to the kit (TagTagTag board, Raspberry Pi, SD card & screwdriver), you will need:

a rabbit and its power supply
a Phillips or Pozidriv screwdriver
a hair dryer (to soften the glue)
a computer with a SD card reader or a USB/SD card adapter

⚠️ The SD card shipped with the 2022 batch of kits is an Micro SD card only. You need an adapter for this that depends of your computer ⚠️

⚠️ For the TagTagTag 2024 edition card: the PCB has not been fully snapped off, as they say. You need to remove the top and bottom parts for the card to fit into the bunny. ⚠️

We strongly suggest that you test your power supply first, before opening the rabbit. To do so, plug your rabbit. If nothing happens (no light, no sound), then the power supply is probably faulty. You will need to find another one with the same voltage / current characteristics.

Step 1: Installation Du Logiciel Et Paramétrage Wifi / Installing the Software and Setting Up the Wifi Connection

(see below for English version)

L'installation du logiciel Pynab (et ses autres composants) nécessite de recopier (flasher) un fichier que l'on appelle une image disque sur la carte SD. Cette image contient l'ensemble du système et l'ensemble des logiciels nécessaires au bon fonctionnement de votre lapin.

Placez la micro-SD dans l'adaptateur de SD et connecter tout ça sur un de votre ordinateur. Vous pouvez aussi utiliser des adaptateurs SD<->USB si vous n'avez pas de port SD sur votre machine.

Pour flasher la carte SD voici les étapes :

Télécharger le fichier : pynab-v1.0.2-zero_raspbian.img.xz
Dezipper ce fichier pour obtenir l'image disque
Télécharger un utilitaire de flashage de carte SD : https://www.balena.io/etcher/
Lancer Etcher et suivez les instructions (sélectionner le fichier pynab-v1.0.0-zero_raspbian.img, sélectionner la carte SD et lancer le tout)

Si vous êtes un aventurier vous pouvez aussi utiliser l'outil raspberry Pi Imager (pour activer le SSH mais ne paramétez pas le Wifi avec cet outil, ça ne fonctionnera pas).

Cette opération prend une dizaine de minutes environ. Une fois que Etcher a terminé son travail, il va "éjecter" la SD card et vous pourrez passer à la suite.

Installing the Pynab code requires to flash the SD card with a disc image. This disc image contains everything needed locally for your rabbit to work. Place the micro-SD card into the full-size SD card adapter and connect it to your computer. You can also use an SD card <-> USB adapter if your computer doesn't have a SD card reader.

To flash the SD card, follow the steps:

Download the following file : pynab-v1.0.2-zero_raspbian.img.xz
Unzip the file
Download and install Etcher, a utility to flash the SD: https://www.balena.io/etcher/
Launch Etcher and follow the instructions (select the pynab-v1.0.0-zero_raspbian.img file, select the SD card and start flashing)

This process takes about 20 minutes. once Etcher has finished, it will eject the SD card and you can go to the next step.

Note : do not try to setup the Wifi network with the raspberry Pi Imager tool if you plan to use it.

Step 2: Démontage De La Coque / Taking Off the Outer Shell

(see below for English version)

Enlevez les oreilles.

Dévissez les 4 vis du dessous avec le tournevis à section triangulaire fourni avec le kit.

Séparez ensuite le corps du lapin.

Take of the ears.

Unscrew the 4 bottom screws with the triangular shaped screwdriver that was delivered with the kit.

Separate the body of the rabbit.

Step 3: Démontage Du Support De Micro / Disassembling the Microphone Crown

(see below for English version)

Dévissez les 4 vis qui maintiennent la couronne en plastique noir qui supporte le micro.

Dégagez le connecteur de micro où le câble reste attaché.

Ce n'est pas forcément très très simple, le mieux est de chauffer le connecteur au sèche cheveux pour ramollir la colle et détachez le connecteur.

Finissez d'enlever le support du micro. A noter qu'ensuite le microphone ne sert plus (il y a déjà deux microphones sur le PCB).

Take out the 4 screws maintaining the black plastic crown featuring the microphone.

Disconnect the microphone cable. You might need to heat the glue with a hairdryer to make it softer. Please note that this microphone is no longer used (there's two microphones on the TagTagTag board).

Take out completely the black crown.

Step 4: Démontage Du Socle / Disassembling the Base

Dévissez le squelette de support des cartes électroniques pour le détacher du socle.

Unscrew the plastic part supporting the electronic boards.

Step 5: Démontage De La Carte RFID / Taking Off the RFID Board

(see below for English version)

Dévissez la carte RFID et mettez la sur le côté.

Unscrew the RFID board and keep it for later

Step 6: Démontage Des Guides De Lumière / Taking Off the Light Guides

(see below for English version)

Démonter les guides de lumière en exerçant une pression latérale avec le doigt pour détacher la colle.

Take off the light guides by putting pressure with your finger to detach the glue.

Step 7: Déconnexion Des Câbles / Disconnecting All Remaining Cables

(see below for English version)

Utilisez un sèche-cheveux pour ramollir la colle qui maintient les connecteurs, puis détachez tous les câbles du PCB principal.

Heat the connectors with a hair dryer and detach all the cables from the main board.

Step 8: Démontage De La Carte Électronique / Taking of the Board

Dévissez la carte électronique et dégagez-là du support plastique.

Enlevez le connecteur d'antenne, et dévissez l'antenne wifi au dos.

Vous pouvez maintenant retirer complètement la carte.

Unscrew the board and take it off the plastic part.

Disconnect the antenna connector and unscrew the wifi antenna from the back.

You can now take off the old board completely.

Step 9: Rupture Du Plot Central / Breaking the Central Supporting Pipe

(see below for English version)

Avec le doigt, faites sauter le plot central en plastique (celui du haut) qui supportait la carte RFID. C'est la seule chose que vous allez devoir casser.

La rupture doit s'effectuer spontanément à la base du plot. Si ce n'est pas le cas, il faudra araser ou couper avec une pince le bout restant.

With your finger, break the central pipe supporting the RFID board. This is the only part you need to break in the whole process.

It should break at the base of the pipe. If it is not the case, cut the remaining part with pliers.

Step 10: La Nouvelle Carte NFC / the New NFC Board

Si vous avez acheté la nouvelle carte NFC, c'est le moment de l'installer comme indiqué dans ce tutoriel. Vous pouvez revenir ici après l'installation de la carte.

Step 11: Vissage De La Nouvelle Carte Électronique / Placing the New Board

Positionnez et vissez la nouvelle carte électronique sur le support en plastique.

Position and attach the new board in place of the old one, using the same screws.

Step 12: Connexion Des Câbles À 6 Fils / Connecting the 6-wire Cables

(see below for English version)

Connectez les câbles à 6 fils sur les pins SOUS la carte, et dans le sens de la photo, c'est-à-dire :

- pour l'oreille gauche (LEFT EAR), avec le DESSUS du connecteur pointant vers le dessus de la carte

- pour l'oreille droite (RIGHT EAR), avec le DESSOUS du connecteur pointant vers le dessus de la carte.

Ne vous fiez pas aux couleurs des fils, elles peuvent varier d'un lapin à l'autre.

Connect the 6-wire cables on the BOTTOM side of the board, and in the direction as shown in the picture, i.e.:

- for the LEFT EAR, the top part of the connector should be visible from the top

- for the RIGHT EAR, the bottom part of the connector should be visible from the top.

Don't take the wire colors into consideration, as they might vary from a rabbit to another.

Step 13: Connexion Du Câble Power / Connecting the Power Cable

Connectez le câble d'alimentation comme indiqué sur la photo :

- dessous du connecteur pointant vers le dessus de la carte

- sur les deux pins les plus proches de la tête

Faire très attention au sens de connection !

Connect the power cable as shown on the picture:

- bottom side of the connector visible from the top

- connector over the two pins closest to the rabbit head

Be very careful to respect the way this connector is to be connected.

Step 14: Connexion Du Câble Du Haut-parleur / Connecting the Speaker

Connectez le câble du haut-parleur comme indiqué sur la photo, avec le dessus du connecteur pointant vers le dessus de la carte.

Connect the speaker cable as shown on the picture, with the top of the connector visible from the top.

Step 15: Connexion Du Câble Du Bouton / Connecting the Push Button Cable

Connectez le câble du bouton comme indiqué sur la photo, avec le dessus du connecteur pointant vers le dessus de la carte.

Connect the button cable as shown on the picture, with the top of the connector visible from the top.

Step 16: Connexion De La Carte RFID / Connecting the RFID Board

Connectez maintenant la carte RFID comme sur la photo, avec le dessus du connecteur pointant vers le dessus de la carte.

Comme pour le connecteur d'alimentation, faire très attention au sens de connection !

Connect the RFID board as shown on the picture, with the top of the connector visible from the top.

Be very careful to respect the way this connector is to be connected or it may damage the raspberry Pi.

Step 17: Montage De La Raspberry Pi / Connecting the Raspberry Pi

Mettez la carte SD dans la Raspberry Pi.

Enfichez la Raspberry Pi dans la carte TagTagTag. La framboise doit avoir la tête en bas.

Insert the SD card into the Raspberry Pi slot.

Connect the Raspberry Pi to the TagTagTag board. The strawberry should be upside down.

Step 18: Montage Des Guide Lumières / Putting Back the Light Guides

(see below for English version)

Remontez les guides lumières.

Les guides du milieu et du haut tiennent tout seul, il suffit de bien les enficher.

Pour celui du bas, il est conseillé d'utiliser un point de colle ou de la patafix pour le faire tenir.

Tous les guides doivent être bien enfoncés à fond dans le PCB pour pouvoir remonter la coque et pour éviter toute fuite de lumière.

Place back the light guide as they were.

The top and middle ones don't need any glue. You just have to insert them fully.

For the bottom one, we advise to use glue or glue pads.

All light guides must be fully pressed in the PCB to avoid any light leakage.

Step 19: Montage De La Carte RFID / Assembling the RFID Board

Vissez la carte RFID sur les deux plots restants, en utilisant les vis d'origine.

Pour bien plaquer la carte RFID sur la peau du lapin, il est conseillé de mettre un bout de carton entre la Raspberry Pi et la carte RFID, comme sur la photo.

Screw the RFID board to the 2 remaining plastic pipes, using the original screws.

It is recommended to place cardboard between the RFID board and the Raspberry Pi (as shown in the picture) to ensure the RFID board is as close as possible from the rabbit outer shell once finished.
