Introduction: John Mellancamp By: Ayana Harlow Age 12
What did you make?
I made a celebrity portrait of John Mellencamp on a canvas using acrylic paint.
How did you make it?
First I drew a small picture of John Mellencamp from a photo. Then I drew a grid over the small sketch and I drew a matching grid in pencil on the canvas. Then I transferred the small image to the canvas by using the grid as a guide to get everything in the right place. Finally I painted the picture and added shadows, and a background.
Where did you make it?
I made it in the art room at the Boys and Girls Club. It was in our fall art show with many other portraits of Bloomington celebrities.
What did you learn?
I learned it is important to pay attention to details when drawing or painting a person. The details are how you can really tell who someone is, and I had to add a lot of them to this painting.
