This Indonesian coconut dessert is a cross between a cake, a pudding, a custard like dessert and it is Dutch-influenced.

It is super good warm, great at room temperature, awesome chilled. So basically you can serve it anytime you want :D

Give this tart a try and see if this will be one of your favorite dessert to make ;-)

Step 1: Ingredients and Directions

Ingredients

  • 10 tbsp young soft coconut meat
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 7 tbsp icing sugar
  • 4 whole eggs
  • 2 c coconut milk (not coconut milk beverage!)
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

Directions

  • Melt butter and set aside to cool to room temperature
  • Beat sugar, eggs, salt, vanilla essence
  • Stir in flour, followed with melted butter, and coconut meat
  • Pour into greased pan/mold, add some raisins if you like, bake on preheated 350 F for 20-25 minutes
  • Serve and enjoy :D

    "Young" coconut meat? If one lives outside the region where coconut grows and the only thing available is mature coconuts or something in a can, what would you use to substitute?

    The baking aisle at most american supermarkets should have dehydrated UNsweetened coconut flakes, just soak them in water and once they well hydrated, discard the water and u should be good to go! They are a great substitute for many asian dishes thatbrequire grated fresh coconuts :)

    definitely not recommending that.

    while yes we can use desiccated coconut for other dishes and bakings, not for this tart unfortunately

    you would want a tender coconut. while you can make desiccated coconut soften, they are not tender as young coconut meat :)

    i wonder if you have Asian stores? usually they have frozen ones. Sometimes, coconut drinks at grocery stores have coconut meat in them. Health food store might have as well.

    Klapper means coconut, so I cant suggest any substitution, sorry

    I tried making this tart with the whole coconut that sometime grocery stores at produce sections carry, I would grate them myself, they are too hard as they are too mature :-/

    If you have tender coconut meat from cans, you can use those!
