Introduction: K'nex Lamp
I wanted to make something unique for the K'nex contest. I was going to enter a coin activated mechanism, but I didn't think I could finish it in time. I needed a quick build that still looked cool and might give me a chance at winning something. I'd seen only a couple K'nex lamps before, so I thought "Why not build one?" What turned out was a pretty awesome looking K'nex lamp that stands 21" at it's highest and 11" at it's widest. Some of the features include; an easily accessible light bulb from the top opening of the shade, and a removable lamp shade as well. Right now and in the pictures I took, I'm using a 29w soft white light bulb which works pretty well. Because the roller coaster tubing on the lamp shade is red, and the soft white light bulb already casts kind of a yellowish light, the light coming from the lamp is pretty orange. Which is ok, but I would like to buy a higher wattage clear light bulb to see if that helps. I tried a clear energy saver bulb, but it wouldn't fit :-(
First, I took apart my plain, old, boring lamp saving only the electrical stuff. I had to cut and splice the cord to get it out of the original lamp. Next, I started constructing the lamp shade, which was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Filling in the gaps was the hardest part. After a lot of trial and error, I decided to use the the thick roller coaster tubing. Picture 10 shows how it's attached. Finally, I built the stand, which was also hard because I had to make it where the switch was still accessible. Once I hit upon a design though, it got done fast.
Thank you for viewing my K'nex lamp. If you would be so kind as to vote for this project in the Toys Rods and Connectors Contest I would greatly appreciate it. ~KneXtreme~

Is there some way you could make the lamp shade ONLY? Because I could use that for my lamp in my room.

Hey Knex, I sent you a message :)

This lamp looks better than a real one. If you would've posted instructions, it probably would have won.

I definitely think that you should have won something in the contest with this. Im kind of mad that they didn't even give you a place. I mean this thing is so cool and well built. It also looks great and I would love to build one. Do you still have it? If you do, is it possible to make instructions for it? I want one!

Yah. Maybe I'll win something in the Epilog contest. Yep, I still have it. I don't know if I will make full instructions for it, but I'll definitely take more pictures of it broken up.

Looks great! If I were you though I'd buy an energy saving bulb so it doesn't get hot, though I don't know how hot the Knex actually gets with that normal incandescent bulb.
