Introduction: Light Up Hammock

For my project I decided to make a hammock specifically for night hammocking! It lights up so that if you have to leave your hammock, you can find your way back easier!

Supplies

  • LED light strip
  • Hammock. I used Grand Trunk Double
  • 1/4 yd see through fabric that matches your hammock
  • Sewing machine

Step 1: Set Up Arduino Code

To code your arduino, do one string for the lights on the arduino itself to light up and one string of code to make your LED strip light up. I coded using adafruit. The code that I used is in the photo on this step. Load the code onto your arduino by plugging it into your computer and dropping the code file into the arduino folder.

Step 2: Solder Wires Into Place.

Solder your wires from the LED strip onto your arduino. I soldered black to the Vout and a color to the V1 to make the light strip glow.

Step 3: Sew a Casing for LEDs

Using your see through fabric (I used chiffon, but you could use something stronger than that if you want), sew a casing (like a long tube!) big enough for your LED to fit through. Mine was a strip about 3 inches before I sewed it. Make sure it's long enough to go around your whole hammock!

Step 4: Feed LEDs Through and Sew on to Hammock

Feed your LEDs through your tube now! When you're done, carefully sew your tube around your hammock without sewing over the lights. I sewed mine around the outside where the two different colored fabrics meet.
