Introduction: MAT 238 Clay Fabrication

For this week's project, I used parametric design to make a fancy vase and printed it out.

Step 1: Preparation

Clay fabrication is different from the traditional 3D printing since it needs a lot of preparation. As a group, we prepared the clay and loaded the tube.

Step 2: Parametric Design of a Vase

For my design, I modified the parametric cylinder with base. For each layer, I added a sin function to the circle to create an alternating star pattern. I also had a cos function of layer count to make the circumferences of layers alternate in a periodic way. On top of that, I rotated each layer. My code and design preview are shown in the images.

Step 3: Print

The base of my design was not well printed but once it moved to the wall everything started to smooth out.

Step 4: Results

A picture is worth a thousand words.
