Introduction: Making Mini Apple Turnovers

These are mini two-bite apple turnovers like the ones you would get at the supermarket, but homemade. An apple turnover Is a little pastry with apples inside like a mini pie.

Step 1: Ingredients

•1 cup flour
•1/2 tsp. salt
•1/3 cup 1 tbsp. shortening
•4 tbsp. cold water
•1 apple diced
•4 tbsp. sugar
•1 tbsp. flour
•1/2 tsp.cinnamon
•some cinnamon and sugar mixed in a ratio of 1:1

Step 2: Preheat

Preheat the oven to 450* Fahrenheit. This is important to speed up cooking time.

Step 3: Making the Dough

Take a large empty bowl and put the 1 cup flour inside.(note- in the pictures I used a wheat flour so the color will be off. Don't worry if your dough is the wrong color;). Add the 1/2 tsp. salt into the flour. Add all the shortening into the mixture and use a pastry blender to cut the shortening into the flour mixture until the shortening is small bits all mixed in. Drizzle the water on top and mix with a fork until it forms a ball of dough.

Step 4: Making the Apples

Peel the apples and cut them into small pieces. Add 4 tbsp. sugar, 1tbsp. flour, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Mix this together to make the apples for the inside of the turnover.

Step 5: Putting Them Together

Take your ball of dough and put it on a lightly floured counter. Roll it 1/2 an inch thick and cut a small circle from it. Put a few apple bits on one side and food it over. My touch is I take a fork and press the and so it stays together and it looks nice. Poke holes on top for vents and drizzle the top in the cinnamon and sugar mixture

Step 6: Cooking

Put the turnovers int the oven for around ten minutes, depending on the size. It is done when the outside feels somewhat crunchy, but not completely dry. The take a while to cool because the apples retain heat, but they taste best warm. Enjoy!
