Introduction: Mallorca Mini-Pies

About: Hello! We are Troy, and Lyle: two brothers that are extremely creative and love creating and doing paper craft!

Hello and welcome to my Instructable!

I LOVE food. Like every type of food: cakes, pasta, fast-food, vegetables, fruit, etc. One of my favorites though are pies, and on Mallorca we have something called “Empanades Mallorquines” which basically translates to Mallorcan Mini-Pies. Have you ever thought of going to a park and eating a mini pie? Any bakery that you go to on Mallorca will have one of these 100%, you probably won't find these anywhere else in the world, so why don't you try this recipe out?

By following this recipe, you will be able to make 6 pies!

Supplies

For the dough:

  • 500 gr of all-purpose flour
  • 65 gr of softened butter
  • 65 ml of sunflower oil
  • 125 ml of water
  • 3 egg yolks
  • A teaspoon of salt

For the filling:

  • Cooked chicken
  • “Sobrassada” (optional) - Click here for the recipe
  • 500 gr of boiled peas
  • A teaspoon of pepper

Ruler

Please make sure that you have all the ingredients before you start!

Step 1: Lets Make the Dough!

Start off by cracking the eggs and introducing the 3 yolks into a bowl, then add the sunflower oil and the water. After, add the softened butter and, mix mix mix!

After mixing, sift the flour and mix the mixture at the same time. Stop mixing when the dough stops being sticky or has a smooth texture.

Step 2: And the Filling...

Time to make the filling!

Grab the peas, chicken and the “sobrassada”. Put them in a bowl and mix them together with your hands (make sure to wash them). Pretty simple step if I say so my self!

Step 3: Making the Pie Shapes!

Get some sunflower oil and spread it over the metal tray (the one that you are going to put in the oven).

Now get your ruler ready! Spread the dough out on the tray with a rolling pin and make the dough neither to thick nor to thin. After make twelve 7 cm diameter circles. I used a small cup to make them. Then make six long strips with 1 cm width and wrap them around only 6 of the circles, make sure to pinch the connecting bits of the circle and the strips, so they don't fall apart during baking. Now fill it up with the filling and finally put the six remaining circles on top of the six half completed pies and pinch the connecting bits so again, they don't fall during after baking. Don't forget to put a pea in the center of the pie as in my photos for decoration!

Step 4: Now Bake Them!

Preheat the oven at 180 °C for five minutes and then insert the pies in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes till its cooked. You will know when its cooked when the pies turn brown.

Step 5: Enjoy!

Congratulations! You've finally completed your Mini-pies adventure! Enjoy, as these are delicious and don't eat them to fast like I do!
