Learn how to create an adorable necklace using Polymer clay and a silicone mold.

Step 1: Supplies

  • Jeweled Brooch Mold
  • 3 different colors of Polymer clay
  • needle tool
  • clay tool
  • baking pan
  • chain
  • jump rings
  • bails
  • lobster claws
  • 2 pairs of needle nose pliers
  • nippers
  • gloss glaze
  • synthetic fiber brush

Step 2: First Color

Using the color of your choice, knead a small ball of polymer clay to fit in the center of the mold.

Step 3: Creating the First Gemstone

Press the ball of clay into the center of the mold.

Step 4: Shaping the Gemstone

Using the clay tool, pack the clay down and push it firmly into the ridges of the mold so the clay completely fills the outline for the first gemstone. Once the clay is packed down, you may need to add a little more to make the clay level with the outline of the gemstone.

Step 5: 2nd Gemstone

Repeat the kneading process with a larger piece of clay to fill the 2nd gemstone which surrounds the middle of the mold.

Using the clay tool once again, press the clay down firmly and pack it into all the ridges of the 2nd gemstone layer. Add additional clay, if needed, to make the surface of the clay level.

Step 6: 3rd Row of Gemstones

Using your third color of clay, knead a larger piece. Roll it into a sausage and then form the sausage into a ring. Press the ring of clay down into the mold, pushing it towards the outside edges of the mold. Once again, use the clay tool to assist you in getting the clay into all the ridges of the mold. Add additional clay to make the back of the mold level. If you add too much, you can pinch off the excess and then level the clay out. Once level, loosen the clay from the mold by bending the sides of the mold downwards. Once the clay has been loosed from all sides, bend the mold back and allow the clay to pop out.

Step 7: Preparing to Bake

Take your unmolded jewelry piece and create a hole in between the outer gemstones using the needle tool. Push it through the clay.

Make sure your jewelry piece hasn't lost it's shape, adjusting it if necessary. Place on the baking pan and bake according to the clay manufacturer's instructions.

Step 8: Glazing

Use the paintbrush and glaze to coat the entire jewelry piece. Allow to dry.

Step 9: Attaching the Clasp

Using both needle nose pliers, twist open one of the jump rings. Insert the jump ring through the hole you made in the jewelry. Attach the bail to the jump ring and then use the pliers again to close the jump ring.

Step 10: Adding the Chain

Decide on the length of chain you'd like to use. Using the nippers, cut the chain where you want it to end. Using the needle nose pliers, open a jump ring and attach it to the end of the chain. Insert the jump ring through a lobster clasp. Close the jump ring with the pliers. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the chain, but instead of a lobster clasp, add a bail to the jump ring.
