Introduction: Mess Free Finger Painting for Kids
Trying to entertain young children on a rainy day can be quite challenging. It can be even more difficult if you are looking for things to do that don't involve batteries or electronics. My wife and I started doing these mess free finger paintings when my son was 8 months old, in the accompanying video and pictures he is around 1 year old.
This is a great project to entertain your child for an hour or so and the end result can make a really nice gift!

Supplies
These are links to either the exact tool/supply I used or something very similar.
- Large freezer bag (big enough to fit the entire canvass and seal tightly)
- variety of colors of acrylic paint
- scissors

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
The first step is to gather your supplies. Make sure that the freezer bag is bigger than the canvass you have chosen, and choose the paint colors you want to use.
Step 2: Spread Out the Paint
Now you will spread out the paint. Take out different colors of paint and blob them onto the canvass. Where you put the paint will ultimately control the overall design of the piece, so choose carefully.
Make sure to get enough paint in each blob that it can be spread around.

Step 4: Put the Canvass in the Freezer Bag
Next you will put the canvass with the paint blobs into the freezer bag.
Be careful to not have any of the paint touch the top of the bag, you can use you hand to push up on the bag from the inside.
Step 5: Seal the Freezer Bag
This is a simple but important step. Make sure the bag is completely sealed, otherwise you may end up with paint everywhere.
Step 6: Let the Little Artist Do His/Her Magic!
This is the most fun step for the parents and children alike. Give your little on the bag with the canvass in it and let them have fun!
They can use their fingers to push around the paint, put it on the ground to step on it, throw it around, or even fall on it if they are so inclined. I have even seen my son use one of his favourite toys to help him paint, and our dog joined in at one point as well!
Step 7: Remove the Freezer Bag
Once your little one is finished painting its time to remove the canvass from the bag. I recommend putting down newspaper for this step as it can get messy if you drop the freezer bag.
Cut the freezer bag's sides, then open it up.
Slide the freezer bag out from underneath and dispose of it.
Step 8: Let the Paint Dry Then Enjoy
The last step is to let the paint dry. I usually leave it overnight.
After it is dry, you are ready to enjoy the painting. Either hang it on the wall directly, or add a frame. These paintings make great gifts for close friends and family.
