Introduction: Money Bag Pie
Money bag Pie.. It is stuffed with (not pennies :p) savory filling.. It looks as well as tastes so great.. It's definitely a crowd pleaser dish :)
Step 1: Ingredients
Ingredients for dough
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tbsp oil
1/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
1/2 to 3/4 cup of lukewarm water

Ingredients for filling
1 large potato or 2 medium size potato, boiled and mashed
1 medium size onion, chopped
1/4 cup carrot, shredded
1 tsp garlic, chopped
1 tbsp fennel seed
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp oil
Salt to taste

Some APF for dusting
7 no of spring onion , cut it like thread to tie the money bag
Oil for deep frying
Step 2: Dough Preparation
Take all dry ingredients in a bowl, combine all together.
Add oil and half cup of water and mix until it attain dough consistency. Add little water if i'ts dry. If It is sticky, add some flour.
cling wrap the dough and let it sit until usage.
Step 3: Filling Preparation
Take mashed boiled potatoes in medium bowl.
Add chilli, turmeric powder and salt. Mix until incorporated.
Heat oil in pan on medium flame. Add garlic, fennel seeds and saute for 15 sec.
Add onion and carrot. Saute until it turned to soft.
Add potato mixture and mix well. Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes over low flame.
Turn off the flame. Let it cool for sometime.
Step 4: Making Money Bag Pie
Take the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions.
Dust the floor with some All Purpose flour. Take one portion and roll it into thin disc using rolling pin.
Spoon some fillings in the center of rolled dough. gather the edges and tie with spring onion thread.
Repeat the same process for rest of the dough.
Step 5: Frying Pies
Heat oil for deep frying over medium flame. Once the oil is heated, carefully drop the money bag into the oil.
Fry until it turn to golden brown color in all sides. Drain excess oil using paper tissue.
Serve them with Mint chutney or Ketchup.

Everything is so healthy, until you get to the part about deep fat frying. Have you ever tried baking these? Oh, and maybe whole wheat flour, or at least part whole wheat.

instead of frying, you can bake these.. set oven to 175 c. brush with some beaten eggs on outer side of dough and bake until golden brown.. you can replace all purpose flour with some whole wheat flour too.. tats healthy indeed.. thanks :)

for the filling, numerous options are der.. prepare meat filling and stuff.. I'm sure it 'll b yumm..

Wow these are super ! I added cooked ground pork to the potatoes and deep fried , dipped in hot mustard ... so good . I have also steamed these little bags of goodness , came out pretty much like a steamed dumpling .

thank you so much :) I am super glad tat u liked it... these can be cook by conventional oven too.. just brush with some egg on outer side of dough and bake until golden brown.. for the stuffing, we have numerous options.. I'm also planning to try with minced meat next time..

it will come out well with Apple, cinnamon an sugar.. I doubt about juicy fruits like berries..
