Introduction: Newspaper Flower Bouquet (three Types of Flowers)

Now are you on a budget? Are you trying to make a last minute gift. Look no further because I have the solution. Its this that's why to clicked on it. You want to try to make a flower bouquet to give to someone or you are just bored. Either way this tutorial will show you have to make three different flowers. The first one are called spider mums and they are full of volume. The second are Calla Lily simple but elegant and the third is a classic rose. I am using stuff that I found around my house so don't run to the store to buy fancy card stock you use only once repurpose what you already have!

Step 1: Step One: Gather Your Materials

First flower- Spider Mums

What you need:

Newspaper

Twig or for a more professional look floral wire stem

Scissors

Glue/Tape

Pen

Gather all the materials. Get yourself some more newspaper, or book, or music sheet if you have any of those lying around. A cool idea would be to use one of those paint rectangle chips to get a cool color gradient. The twigs well you can go outside and find some twigs that have fallen or you could just use wire that can be found at the hardware store, any kind of black wire.

Step 2: Step Two: Create a Strip

Take you old newspaper and unfolded it. On the length slide make a big strip 3-4’’ wide. However you can play with the size for the best fit personally I like them long but whatever you’re looking for. Once your strips are cut, you’ll take your large pair of scissors and cut fringes into your paper.

Step 3: Step Three: Rolling

Roll your paper around your twig. You can place some tape inside while you roll it if you’d like to prevent it from being pulled out. Also if you put glue along the slide it will help but warning it can get a bit messy.

Step 4: Step Four: Making a Base (optional)

Because the bud has a wider base than the stem, you’ll want to use some newspaper or something similar to fill connects the flower to the twig. Once you’ve completely wrapped the bug and stem together, the flower itself is officially assembled.

Step 5: Step Five: Bending

Now you’ll want to take the paper strips of the bud and pull out and over. Use your thumb or pen to create a slight curve or a big curve if you want.

Now just make a couple of these spiders mum and then their ready to be assembling to the bouquet. Remember it doesn’t need to be necessary they are just fun and are full of flair.

Now for flowers that are a little more elegant.

Step 6: Second Flower- Calla Lily

These are far simpler but it takes some more trials to get it perfect.

What you need:

Newspaper

Twig or for a more professional look floral wire stem

Scissors

Glue/Tape

Step 7: Step One: Gather Your Materials

Gather all the materials. Get your self some more newspaper, or book, or music sheet if you have any of those lying around. The twigs well you can go outside and find some twigs that have fallen pick stems that have a cool on interesting end because people will see that in the lilies or you could just use wire that can be found at the hardware store, any kind of black wire. Tape with is very essential.

Step 8: Step Two: Tracing

Take you newspaper and use a pencil and light make an outline that looks like a raindrop. See the picture as a reference. The best way is to fold your paper in half and draw one slide so its nice and even, This step might take you a couple of trials of adjusting to get it perfect. I made a template on a scrape piece of paper and trace that onto the newspaper.

Step 9: Step Three: Cutting

Cut out your outline. Be very carefully and cut out you outlines. I am making three lilies for know but you can trace and cut out as many as them as you want.

Step 10: Step Four: the Slit and Step Five: Folding and Taping

Cut a small slit about 2-3 centimeter in the center this will help it fold the ends better

Step Five: Folding and Taping

Connect the two bottom ends together around the twig and tap them together. Then bend the top part to give a light curve to them.

Step 11: Third Flower- Classic Rose

Now last but no least a rose!!!

Yes there are numerous ways to make a rose but this is my way to make it. It’s a little bit more work but the results are beautiful.

What you need:

Newspaper

Twig or for a more professional look floral wire stem

Scissors

Glue/Tape

Pen/pencil

Step 12: Step One: Gather

Gather all the materials. Get your self some more newspaper, or book, or music sheet if you have any of those lying around. The twigs well you can go outside and find some twigs that have fallen. Or you could just use wire that can be found at the hardware store, any kind of black wire. Glue with is very essential.

Step 13: Step Two: Cutting.

You will need to stockpile at least 5 different sizes of petals ranging from about 1 inch wide to 4 inches wide. I cut freehand, and avoid templates, so that each petal is a unique and organic shape. Each petal should be unique some can be pointy, and some can be rounded. For each flower you will need at least 4 of each size. Make more than you need.

Step 14: Step 3: Shaping

I really feel that this is the most important step to create natural and soft looking flowers. Roll the edges of each petal with a pen or your fingers, and pinch the base slightly. Each one can be done a little differently to give the petals character and roundness. I shape all of my petals before I even begin gluing anything.

Step 15: Step 4: Rolling the Center.

You need to cut out one more shape for each flower, and this is for the coiled center of the rose. This shape should be about 2 ½ inches long with a rounded tip. Roll it up into a tube to create its shape. Unroll it and run a bead of glue along the inside and re-roll it around the end of your twig. Some tape will hold it in place.

Step 16: Step 5: Attaching Petals.

Begin with your smallest petals. Use a single dot of glue, about ¼ inch from the bottom of the petal to attach it to the stem. Your next petal should overlap the first. Continue adding small petals, rotating the stem as you go, always slightly overlapping the last petal you attached. This is where your artistry will come in as you continue to rotate and build. As you begin adding larger petals pinch the bases, as they are much wider. By pinching at the bases you will be rounding out the rose, and creating space between layers.

Step 17: Your Done!!!

Congratulations you did it! Now make multiples of each flower and arrange them to however you please. Then you can be create you can gather some fake green leaves for a bit more color and tie all your flowers with a nice ribbon.
