Introduction: Onion Flower Pie

There are so many Onion pie already in Instructables. Here is my  receipe which is very famous over here. This awesome Pie can be prepared a day before too.I di not have enough time to decorate with more flowers ...:( because I was too hungry ..

Step 1: Ingredients

For the yeast dough

125  ml Milk
 200 gr all purpose flour
1/2  pkt fast action dried yeast
1/2  Tea spoon sugar
1/2  level tea spoon salt
2  Table spoon cooking oil

For the topping
750 gr Onions
150 gr bacon
3 table spoon cooking oil
Salt to taste
Freshly grounded pepper
1 level tea spoon  grounded cummin
100 gr Gouda cheese
2 eggs
75 gr cream

For decoration
Red food colouring -not in picture
1 onion

Step 2: Dough

Prepare the dough by warming the milk slightly.Sift the flour to the mixing bowl and add the dry yeast,Sugar, salt,,and the cooking oil.Last of all pour the warm milk and stir with a hand mixer with a kneading hook first briefly at the lowest setting, then at the highest setting for about 15 minutes until it forms a smooth dough.Cover with a soft wet cloth and put in a warm place until it has visibly increased in volume.

Step 3: Braise Onions

Peel and wash the onions.Slice them thinly.Heat the oil in a large pan and braise them while stirring on slow fire.I used a little bit more oil than the receipe.

Step 4: Add Bacon Etc ...

Slice the bacon very thinly and add to the onions.I used beef bacon.Keep stirring briefly.Season with salt ,pepper and ground cummin. Take off the fire and let it cool.

Step 5: Prepare Tray

Grease a 28 inches baking tray.

Step 6:

Once the onion mixture has cooled  grate the gouda cheese and stir in to the onion mixture along with the eggs and cream.
My ingredients (PIcture) shows 4 eggs.It was a mistake. Please use 2 eggs only.

Step 7: Roll Out

Did you see the dough has increased in volume?Pat on the dough and it goess pufff....Knead again slightly on a floured surface. Roll out  and line the tray. Press the dough upwards along the edges to form the border.Spread the onion mixture on the dough and put in a warm place again until the dough has visibly increased in volume.I frgot to click  a close up photo  :(
You can see it just near the heater once again...

Step 8: Set Oven

In  the mean time Set the oven to top/bottom heat 200°C/400° F (Pree heated)
Here you see it increased in volume again after filling the onion mixture, and it goes in to the pree heated oven.
baking time about 30-35 minutes.

Step 9: Assemble Onion Flower

While  the pie is baking ,here is a little onion flower I made to cheer up my Pie.Slit  a small onion in to two and then in to four up to 3/4 When you remove them it will come out as petals.Sorry again for not clicking my camera as I was too hungry and wanted to clear up fast. It's just that I forgot.keep turning the petals on hot oil for few minutes.Put it on a kitchen tissue and pat off of the oil .Once done paint withyour choice of  food colouring.Hold the thin petal in the middle and go around assembling the flower.Unfortunately I did not have enough time to make more flowers :(  You could do more and decorate the whole Pie. it will look great with more flowers.

Step 10: Insert Flower

Ten minutes before you take off from the oven insert the flower in the Middle..Let the flower also bake a little bit .
Hmm its done and straight away I served it warm.Don't you think it looks lovely?
Try out it is yummy too.

PS:
To prepare this the day before, make the dough with cold ingredients.Coat the dough lightly with oil to prevent it from drying out put in a bowl cover with clingfilm and leave in the refrigerator over night to rise. The following day continue as priscribed.

Thank you for taking time to  view my  tasty Pie and and don't for get to vote for this lovely flower pie.
