Introduction: Peppermint and Lavender Foot Soak

Summer is so rough on the feet. All that walking around the garden barefoot, tramping round cities sightseeing, salt from sea water, chlorine from pool water... it all takes a toll on your tootsies! This foot soak is soothing and healing, without any of the nasties you find in shop-bought soaks. So run some warm water and give your feet a treat!

Step 1: Gather Ingredients

To make around one cup of scrub, you will need:

  • 1/2 cup epsom salts (aka magnesium sulphate) to relax the muscles in your feet, reduces stiffness and puffiness, softens the skin... and reduces odour, if that is a problem for you ;-)
  • 1/2 cup bicarbonate of soda (aka baking soda) helps to reduce cracked heels, softens the water and soothes aches+
  • Few drops peppermint essential oil peppemint relieves swelling and soreness, and gives a pleasant cooling tingle to hot, tired feet
  • Few drops lavender essential oil (or some sprigs of fresh lavender) to help soothe, as well as being antibacterial and antifungal.

The chances are you will already have these items in your bathroom or kitchen! You will also need a jar of some kind to store it in.

Step 2: Mix It Up!

Mix the dry ingredients (1/2 cup epsom salts and 1/2 cup bicarbonate of soda) first. Once mixed well, add 7-10 drops of peppermint essential oil and 7-10 drops of lavender oil, or you if you have them in your garden, you could add some dried mint leaves or dried lavender flowers instead. Mix thoroughly.

Step 3: To Store and Use

Once everything is mixed in thoroughly, decant into a pretty jar and keep for yourself or give as a lovely gift!

To use, add a generous tablespoon to a tub of hot water. Soak for up to an hour and r-e-l-a-x!
