Introduction: Rain Alarm School Project

A way to teach conductivity of water and a simple project to display applications of circuits in our daily lives. Here is a DIY which can be a great science project for class 6 and above. Water is a good conductor of electricity. Water is used to complete a circuit to indicate the falling of water in the plastic container kept in an open area.

We use simple DIY science projects to teach children about basic concepts of science.

I have seen a very complicated rain alarms whereas this one gives audio as well video signal when rain water falls on it.

The material you receive in our kit
is as follows:-

1. Two copper strips

2. Two LEDs

3. One plastic container

4. One buzzer

5. One 9V battery with cap

6. One cello tape

7. Connecting wire

8. Cardboard base


  1. Cut the connecting wire into 3 pieces
  2. Remove its insulation and bare its ends
  3. Get 2 inch thin copper strips and make small holes in the copper strips.
  4. Loop in the bare ends of connecting wire into the copper strips and lay them in the plastic container.
  5. Attach one of the connecting wire from the copper strips to the positive base of buzzer
  6. Connect third piece of connecting wire into the LED terminal (cathode).
  7. Connect the other terminal of LED to the red wire of battery cap.
  8. Now finish the circuit with connecting black battery cap wire to the other wire from the copper strip.
  9. Now put water into the container as soon as the water connects the 2 copper strips the circuit gets completed and the buzzer and LED start signalling.


Connect the positive with positive.

Make sure to connect the positive terminal of the battery to the positive terminal of the electrical components.
