2 sheets of Plastic Acetate

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

The actual supplies you will need will be based on the image you want to recreate. I used mainly Lace Candy because I wanted to create the long fur effect on the puppy. The corn syrup is used to "glue" down the lace candy.

Step 2: Start Building the Design

Cover your image with the plastic acetate sheet. For the eyes, I shaped the Jolly Rancher in the shape needed.

Then in order to "glue" the Lace candy strips together I used corn syrup. Spread a thin layer onto the acetate - do this in sections or the corn syrup will dry out. Do not cover the entire acetate with corn syrup in one step. Once you've spread the corn syrup using the offset spatula, start laying down the lace candy as needed.

Step 3: Continue "drawing"

Using the appropriate laces continue coloring the design. Add some black sugar for the eyes and a couple of white confetti sprinkles for the glimmer in the eyes.

Step 4: Flipping the Image

Once you complete the image, everything is kind of stuck to the acetate. So you'll need to flip the image onto the other acetate sheet. To release the lace candy (which was glued to the acetate), it's best to use a plastic spatula or a plastic scraper. Slowly release the plastic while holding the image down with the plastic spatula. You may have to rinse the spatula occasionally to get the corn syrup off. Also, do not pull the acetate straight up, gently roll against the image. After you remove the entire acetate, take more corn syrup to cover the entire image. This will help glue the laces together and it help with the chocolate (in the next step) from seeping through.
