Introduction: Recycled Map Ornament

Instead of throwing away maps that you have accumulated, turn them into this crafty ornament! This map ornament can be a souvenir of a trip or it can represent places that are important in your family history. You can give this as a gift or use it as decoration in your home. Not all ornaments are for the holidays, so you can display this year-round!

Supplies

  • Maps (cut in circles)
  • Clear glass or plastic ornament
  • Paint brush
  • Mod-Podge
  • Scissors
  • Small glass or cup (optional)
  • Pencil (optional)

Step 1: Gathering Supplies

Gather all of the supplies needed

Step 2: First Layer of Mod-Podge and Map Pieces

First remove the metal hanging piece at the top. Then, apply a thick coat of Mod-Podge on the ornament. Then overlap the pieces of map on to the area with Mod-Podge. (I cut out circular shaped pieces out of various maps but you can cut these in any shape.)

Step 3: Second Layer of Mod-Podge

After you have covered the ornament in layers of Mod-Podge and map pieces add another coat of Mod-Podge to seal it all in.

Step 4: Drying

Set the ornament out to fully dry. I put a pencil into the opening of the ornament and set the pencil in a jar. You can also set the ornament upside down to prevent from getting Mod-Podge on your work surface.

Step 5: Last Layer of Mod-Podge

After all of the ornament is dry, add one final layer of Mod-Podge to give it some shine.

Step 6: Hanging Piece

After everything is dry insert the hanging piece back in the top and you are finished.

Step 7: Finished!
