Introduction: Rodent Proof Self-dispensing Chicken Feeder

About: http://iamawesome.com NZ Mother, chicken keeper, homeschool teacher,

This is an easy-to-make grain dispenser.

Step 1: Gather the Materials

An empty bucket - mine is a 10 litre paint bucket

A piece or stick or dowel

A long screw

A milk bottle top or something similar

Tools - Drill, screw driver, something to cut the bottle top

Step 2: Drill a Hole in the Bucket

It needs to be smaller than the bottle lid diameter, but a lot larger than the screw so that the screw can move freely.

Step 3: Drill a Hole in the Stick

Just to make it easier to insert the screw.

Step 4: Cut the Bottle Top.

It needs to be cut by about a third off the side. This is so that grain can flow into the space. Then drill a hole into the middle of the lid. Insert the screw.

Step 5: Assembly

Put the lid with the screw in it inside the bucket and screw on the dowel/stick to the bottom.

Step 6: Hang the Bucket

I have a bracket attached to the side of my coop. My clever chooks come and go all day helping themself to the wheat. I tried pellets but they didn't flow freely, and also my chooks don't like them much.

The grain stays dry inside the bucket, there is no wastage, no feeding the sparrows. and best of all, no mice.
