STM32 gesture control Module use 4 VL6180X sensor and STM32 F070 controller, by reading the measurement data of four sensors, the gesture is judged simply, and output through USB/CDC serial port.

This module carries on the simple gesture recognition to the data, but also provides four ranging data, the user can carry on the gesture recognition model training.

Step 1: Prepare Circurt Board

The VL6180X is a ground-breaking technology allowing absolute distanceto be measured independent of target reflectance.

Instead of estimating the distance by measuring the amount of light reflected back from the object (which is significantly influenced by color and surface), the VL6180X precisely measures the time the light takes to travel to the nearest object and reflect back to the sensor (Time-of-Flight). We use four VL6180X modules, placed in four directions, so that we can more accurately judge the direction and trajectory of gesture movement.

Step 2: Test and Observed Data

This module is powered by DC5V, the sensing range of the sensor is 0-15cm.

When the object passes through the detection range, the corresponding direction of the LED indicator light will light up.

Download the serial Port Assistant tool, download the serial Port Assistant tool and select the correct serial port. The baud rate is 115200. The output data is in hexadecimal, the first four bits of data show the distance of the object from the four sensors, and the last column of data represents the direction.

Step 3: Application

The kit can easily detect the direction and distance of an object's movement, and the addition of functionality has been expanded.

For example, in the production of induction lamp, besides detecting the object turning on the lamp, the mode of light can be switched by detecting the movement direction of gesture, and the brightness can be adjusted by detecting the object's distance.
