Introduction: Small Gift Bag

In this instructable, I will be showing how to make a small gift bag. These are great to put small favors into for birthday parties or weddings. You can find a Huge variety of unique fabric at Spoonflower

Step 1: Step 1: Cut Fabric

I cut these two fabric squares to 8 inch by 8 inch squares. I found yellow fabric and blue fabric on Spoonflower and ordered a swatch of each fabric, which was handy because each swatch prints as an 8x8 square.

Step 2: Step 2: Pin and Sew

Pin the right sides together (pin so that the pretty printed parts face each other and the "back" of the fabric faces out). Sew about 1/4 inch from the edge. I usually end up with too much space between the seam and the edge of the fabric. That's OK. It doesn't need to be perfect. Just trim the extra after you are done sewing. Make sure you leave space that isn't sewn so that you can turn it right side out after sewing. Also, the corners look better if you cut the corners off as shown before turning right side out.

Step 3: Step 3: Sew Again

Next, sew around the outside of the fabric again. This will close off the hole that was left for turning the fabric right side out. You can sew close to the edge, but I left about 1/4 inch between the edge and the seam.

Step 4: Step 4: Sew Pockets

In this step, we sew pockets for the ribbon to go through. First, decide which side will be the outside and which will be the inside. I decided that I wanted the outside of the bag to be blue and the inside to be yellow. Pin the corners down as shown in the picture. Again, the spacing can be estimated, just make sure they are all approximately the same size. Next, measure the ribbon you are using. Mine was shy of 1/4 inch wide, so I sewed a line just over 1/4 inch from the fold. Only sew from one edge of the folded over fabric to the other.

Step 5: Step 5: String Ribbon

Here you can see what the inside of the bag will look like (the yellow side). The next step is to string the ribbon through the pockets you made when sewing the corners down. I find it easier to thread the ribbon through if I first attach the ribbon to a safety pin. You can cut the ribbon right at the corner or leave a bit extra for a fancy bow.

Step 6: Step 6: Tie Ribbon

The last step is to fill the bag with your party favors and tie the ribbon.
