Introduction: Soothing, Healthy Fruit Soup!

In this Instructable, you will learn how to make a soothing, healthy fruit soup for harvest season. You can drink it during breakfast, as a snack, or for dessert. You can serve it warm or chilled. It tastes a bit sour, but adding sweet fruits makes it sweeter.

Supplies

  • Hawthorn Berries, Dried and Pitted [~80g].
  • Apple (3)
  • Pear (2)
  • Peach gum (~100g, optional) [ Peach gum, also known as the serum, is the resin from peaches grown on wild peach trees. It comes as solid blocks in bags. It is widely considered as the most valuable part of the peach tree and has multiple health benefits. We want to add a nectar feel with peach gum or dried white fungus.
  • Papaya (optional) We want to introduce sweetness without adding sugar. If you cannot find papaya, you can use honey instead.

Step 1: Supplies

Step 2: Prepare Hawthorn & Peach Gum Overnight

Wash the dried hawthorn berry and peach gum. Put each in a separate big bowl, add enough cold water as shown in picture and let sit for at least 5 hours (or simply leave them overnight). Hawthorn should be ready when it is soft, and the peach gum will turn soft like jelly, spongy, and grow in size.

Step 3: Boil Hawthorn & Water

Once ready, pour the hawthorn berry and water mixture into a pot. Do not add the peach gum yet. Set the stove to medium or high heat to boil then turn to low for 30 minutes. Add water if needed.

Step 4: Chop Papaya

Wash, peel, and chop papaya into slices or cubes. Some of my family does not like papaya while others love it. I chopped them into bigger slices to make it easy for everyone to pick/avoid.

Step 5: Add Peach Gum & Papaya

Add the peach gum and papaya into the pot. Set the stove to medium or high heat to boil then turn to low for 30 minutes. Add water if needed.

Step 6: Chop & Add Apples

Wash and chop the apples into small cubes. Add the apple pieces to the pot. Set the stove to medium or high heat to boil then turn to low for 20 minutes. Add water if needed.

Step 7: Leave Overnight

Leave overnight to give it time for the flavor to develop.

Step 8: Wash & Chop Pears

Wash and chop the pears into small cubes. Add to the pot of soup. Set the stove to medium or high heat until it boils. After it boils, turn off the heat. The pear should be still crisp, since it hasn't been cooked!

Step 9: Serve Hot or Cold!

Ready to serve hot or cold (my mom likes it cold!). My grandma likes the peach gum because she believes it is good for her skin, my mom likes papaya because it is healthy, and I added lots of apple and pears to mine. Can you guess which one is mine?
