Introduction: Spanish Churros

I was obsessed with churros pictures all over instagram. Spanish churros, knotted churros, Oreo churros bowl and what not, I knew I had to make these some day. I wanted the jumbo ones. So I begun my search about them.

In case you don’t know A churro is a fried-doughpastry—predominantly choux—based snack.

Churros are traditional in Spain and Portugal, from where they originate, as well as the Philippines and Ibero-America. They are also consumed in the Southwestern United States, France and other areas that have received immigration from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries.

In Spain, churros can either be thin (and sometimes knotted) or long and thick, where they are known as porras in some regions. They are normally eaten for breakfast dipped in champurrado, hot chocolate, dulce de leche or café con leche.

Sugar is often sprinkled on top.

Step 1: Ingredients

4)1/2 tsp baking powder
5)Vanilla essence
6)Egg ( optional to loosen the dough if too hard to pipe)
7)all purpose flour 141 grams ( 1cup)

Step 2:

Boil water, sugar and butter together. I used home made butter for it. You may add salt if you like it. Pinch to 1/4 tsp will be enough.

Step 3:

Bring it to a rolling boil.

Add sifted ( flour + baking powder).mix with some elbow grease with the help of a spatula. Don’t use whisk, it will, maximize your workload.

Step 4:

You may use a piping bag with large star pipping nozzle but I prefer this way as I don’t have it yet. With a X-acto knife cut out a star shape on a bottle cap.

Cut out your disposable bottle in this particular way, make sure to tape up the sharp edges.

Step 5:

Scoop it out in a pastry bag, a nice idea is to fold the bag over a glass for easy scooping.

Step 6:

If you don’t have a pipping bag, no worries, use a clean cloth. Pierce a very small hole in the center of the cloth, place the bottle entrance under the cloth. And screw the cap over it.

Scoop in the mixture and secure the ends only by twisting. Any waterproof cloth will work best it you need it for a big batch or for durability. Else use a thick wash and wear cloth.

Step 7:

Fry , use scissors to trim off the ropes to desire lengths.
