Introduction: Starry Night Pumpkin
This year I decided to paint a pumpkin instead of carving it. I went online for inspiration, and decided I wanted to replicate Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'. I simply used a small pumpkin and some acrylic paints.
Step 1: Gather Supplies
You will need:
- Acrylic paints in blues, yellows, reds, black, and white
- A pumpkin
- Paint brushes
- a cup of water to clean brushes
Step 2: Paint Base Colors
I painted blue swirls like those in 'Starry Night' (look it up to see what I mean.) I had to do a second coat on top because orange pumpkin was showing through. I added some black in the second coat just to add contrast.
Step 3: Paint "stars"
Use white, yellow, and light blue paint to paint streaks and dots following the curves of your black and blue swirls.
Step 4: The Celestial Bodies
The original painting has large yellow stars with large halos of light. To re-create this I painted circles of dashed lines in white, and added yellow, and then orange so that the circles were darkest in the center
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Below the swirly star part I painted the pumpkin black, and then painted on white and yellow stars. I also painted the stem white. My particular pumpkin had a bit of vine left on it, so I wrapped that in white twine and hung a little star from it.
