This time I got idea from my brother to make a “kryptonite” by using quartz and green LED light. So I have a good idea of how to make it. The design concept is to use Superman and kryptonite into a show piece. Superman is the legend in the world superhero and the character’s is very powerful, but his weakness is kryptonite. This show piece can be decorated on the table and function as a lamp as well. It looks very cool and easy to make. Let’s begin.

The dimension:

The base: Length 21 x Width 10 x Height 2.5 centimeters.

Superman figure: Height 25 centimeters.

Supplies that you need to do the Superman nightmare’s project.

1. Quartz (Clear is better)

2. Any kinds of wood.

3. LED light, adapter, switch, and heat shrink tube.

4. Spray paint (White, Black)

5. Superman figure.

Step 1: Cut the Wood, and Drill

Use the planter to get the wood to the right height at 2.5 centimeters and I started to cut the wood for the base at length 21 x width 10 centimeters. After that I sand the wood base to make it smooth and use the router to make the cut at the bottom of the base at .05 centimeter depth and height. Then I use the chisel to make a square at the bottom of the base for the LED light. The square is about 4 x 4 centimeters and 2 centimeters in depth (Or the size of the light) with the grove for the wire as well. Now get the plywood to make the LED light’s cover. Next is to use the drill bit the same size of the switch on the side of the wooden base.

Step 2: Spray Paint

Then drill the 3 holes according to the LED light for the light to shine through. Take the gypsum filler to fill all the holes on the wooden base and sand it when dry. Clean it with dry cloth. Then spray paint white for the primer and try to adjust the LED light inside. Next is the use black spray paint the wooden base, maybe 2- 3 coats.

Step 3: Wire LED Light and Switch

Now I started to wire the electrical wire to the LED light and switch. Next I place the heat shrinking tube to the wires and use the soldering iron to weld the wires. Then use the heat gun to shrink the tube and place the wires and switch in place before cover the back plate.

Step 4: Adjust the Quartz and Superman

Last thing is to clean the quartz with water and brush the dirt off. Next is to place the quartz on top of the LED green light (Look for the best angle of the quartz) and adjust Superman figure to the position that on his knee. This will look like Superman losing his power to the kryptonite.
