Introduction: The Beauty of Nature Coaster DIY

About: Life's too short not to shimmer... so grab your glue gun and your glitter!

I've made a few coasters in my day, but I think I created my most favorite coaster yet! Incorporating nature into the resin, along with pigment powder and glitter, I was able to create a very different coaster!

I don't even think the picture even does it justice. I just love it! You will need:

- Coaster mold

- Twigs

- Wood pieces

- Dried leaves

- Sticks or any natural materials you can find outside

- Pigment powder

- Fine copper glitter

- Resin

- Sponge brush

Step 1: Watch the Video to See How I Did It!

Step 2:

Gather things from nature. I used sticks, twigs, slices of wood, dried crushed leaves, pieces of black walnuts etc. Prepare your resin, according to the package directions.

Step 3:

Throw in small pieces of wood, twigs, nut shells, crumpled dried leaves, etc. and mix well. Add glitter as well.

Step 4:

Separate some of the resin into two small cups. Mix in pigment powders.

Step 5:

Put the resin covered twigs and leaves into the mold. Pour the rest of the resin with the glitter into the mold as well.a

Step 6:

Add the two resins with pigment powder.

Step 7:

Using a skewer stick, mix the resin around (in the mold) to make sure the pigment doesn't just stay on top. The twigs and pieces can be sticking out of the mold. Allow to cure.

Step 8:

Remove from mold. I used an electric sander and started with a 60 grit sandpaper and smoothed everything down. Then I followed up with a 220 grit to really smooth it nicely.

Step 9:

Wipe any dust off of the coaster and place it on an overturned cup.

Step 10:

Working over parchment paper or newspapers, mix more resin. You only need a little. Gently brush the resin onto the coaster. Make sure it is well covered, but it only needs to be a thin coat. Watch for any drips.

Step 11:

Pop bubbles with your lighter. Allow to cure.

That's it! Now you have a beautiful, one of a kind, coaster! I like it so much I think I want to try it on a larger scale!
