Introduction: Tiny Travel Honey Soap Gems

I love to travel and recently went on a trip to Thailand. We backpacked, so we had to pack really light. Liquid body washes are messy, and since we stayed in hostels for a lot of the trip, we didn't always have the luxury of those cute little hotel bottles. Traveling with mini soap bits cuts down on waste and is a lot more sanitary, since you're not toting around a slimy bar of soap.

While I know I could have just chopped up a bar of soap into single-serve bits for showers on our trip, this way is just a little bit more fun - and perfect for gifting!

Step 2: Melt Soap Base

Cut two or three cubes off the block of soap. Melt them in the microwave 15 seconds at a time until it's liquid.

Step 3: Add Optional Scent and Color

Add a few drops of fragrance oil and a few drops of dye if you'd like. Mix it up really well to distribute it evenly.

Step 4: Mold the Soap

Use a spoon to drizzle the melted soap mixture into the wells of the Mod Melts mold. Fill each one completely. It's okay if you drip or overfill them a bit.

Step 5: Clean Up the Edges

After the soap has set up for a couple minutes, use the edge of a knife to scrape the surface of the molds to remove any excess.

Step 6: Set and Pop

Set the molds aside to harden for about ten minutes. You can stick them in the fridge if you're feeling impatient. I usually am. :D Bend the molds to pop out each little soap nugget. They should slide right out. Set them aside so that you can use the molds to make a few more sets.

Step 7: Perfectionist Mode

While you're waiting for the next set to be ready, you can trim up any excess bits with a knife. As you can see in the image above, I had a bit of overhang at the edges. It should trim right off.

Step 8: Sort and Check

Sort them to see if they all came out okay. You can re-melt any broken ones, so there's nothing wasted. Put them into a pretty little box or maybe a mason jar. You're all ready for gifting!

Step 9: Final Presentation

Scatter the gems in a soap dish in your bathroom, or throw a few in a plastic baggie to use on your next vacation, camping trip, or just in case you happen upon a nasty public restroom with an empty soap dispenser!
