Introduction: Tiny Underground Base in Minecraft

About: I have been a Minecrafter for probably close to eight years. I enjoy building houses and towns. In real life, I am a proud pet parent to four rubber bands, three craft sticks, three pipe cleaners, five shells …

Hello again, and I am back with another Minecraft Instructable. Unlike my last two, this one would be a good one for survival mode of Minecraft. It is a (tiny) underground base, that should get you through the first night easily and safely.

And, it is made of easy-to-gather materials, that should be starter-friendly; since it is mostly made of wood.

Oh, and the texture pack that I used is a very nice one called Bare Bones, which "brings vanilla Minecraft textures to its 'bare bones'" as the description says. I highly recommend this pack for anybody whose favorite word is "simple" (just like me!). The best part is that it supports new blocks/mobs/items, such as reinforced deepslate, sculk related items, all spawner eggs, and the Warden. You can get it here for Minecraft Bedrock Edition and here for Java.

So, let's get into it right now.

Supplies

Nine oak wood planks

Six spruce trapdoors

One spruce fence

Four barrels

Two chests

One spruce sign

Six ladders

One glass block

One crafting table

One furnace

One lantern or torch

Four campfires (and a shovel to extinguish them with)

One bed

One bookshelf

One enchantment table

Step 1: Find a Good Spot

If you are building this in survival mode, you should probably do it in a place where you can easily get more resources if you run out (like for example, most of this base is made of wood, so you can do this near or in a forest). You really hardly need any space at all, as it is an underground base, but you will need approximately a three-by-four block space for the entrance.

Step 2: Dig a Hole

Dig a hole that is three blocks by three blocks, and five blocks deep.

Step 3: Floor

Place your oak planks on the bottom of the hole, as shown. Remember to not dig out the floor and replace it with planks, but to place the planks over the floor.

Step 4: The Entrance, Part I

Place a spruce trapdoor on each corner of the top of the hole, as you can see in the pictures.

Step 5: The Entrance, Part II

This is hard to put into words, but basically just place a campfire between each of the trapdoors, but not in the middle of the entire thing. Refer to the pictures.

Then, tap each campfire with your shovel in hand to extinguish them. You could also use a bucket of water, but it kind of makes a mess that way.

Step 6: The Entrance, Part III

Place a glass block in the center of the campfires as you can see. If you don't have glass blocks, you could substitute it for really any block (other than sand or gravel, of course), but glass is nice because it looks good, and you can also see when the night is over (like a window).

Step 7: Mailbox

This is an optional step, but if you like, you can build a mailbox. Place one spruce fence post next to the trapdoor on the front-right of the build, with a barrel on top, and a spruce sign on the front of that barrel.

Oh, and also, I left my sign blank, but if you like, you can add some fun to the build by typing your Minecraft username on the sign, so then other players can tell that it is your base.

Step 8: Interior Part I

Go to the trapdoor that you built your mailbox next to (if you decided to build a mailbox), open it up and jump in, then place your ladders going from the trapdoor, down to your floor.

Place your furnace next to the ladder, your crafting table between the furnace and the wall, and a lantern on top of the crafting table. If you don't have a lantern, you can use a torch instead, as I mentioned in the "supplies" section above.

Above the crafting table and furnace, place two barrels with a large chest on top. Just in case you don't know, a large chest is made when two chests are placed right next to each other.

Step 9: Interior Part II

On the opposite side of the wall, place a stack of two barrels in the corner, with two spruce trapdoors attached to the top one. Refer to the pictures, as that is super hard to put into words. You should now have a "shelf," or a loft.

Underneath the loft, place a bookshelf with an enchantment table next to it, as you can see above. One bookshelf won't give you amazing enchantments, but it gives you better ones than you have with no bookshelves. Oh, and on your first day of your survival world, the chance of obtaining an enchantment table is almost zero, so feel free to skip that part if needed. But the enchantment table is good for later on, like maybe sometime within your first ten or fifteen days.

Place a ladder on each one of the barrels, as seen in Picture #5; this will allow you to climb up to the loft so you can place a bed on it. Now you have a nice and space-saving loft bed.

Step 10: Optional

This step is very optional, but if you have about twenty-five extra oak planks with you, you can replace the dirt wall with planks just so that it looks cleaner. But you don't have to if you can't or don't want to.

Step 11: Done!

You have finished your tiny underground base, so have a safe first night!

Thanks for reading, and please remember to let me know in the comments about anything else you want me to build.

Goodbye!
