Introduction: Transparent Clutch
Take this chic transparent clutch out with you for a night on the town! You can make it in under 10 minutes.
I got the idea for this project from HonestlyWTF. They have DIY instructions for this project as well.
Step 1: High Fashion
Transparent clutches from top designers.
Step 2: Materials
Clear Rectangular Hinge Box - I got mine from Tap Plastics, they sell them at the container store also but the ones from tap plastics are much better quality
Hand Drill
Door Knob - I got a cute flower one from Anthropologie for $6
Dremel - or a tool to cut the end of the bolt connected to the door knob
Step 3: Drill Hole
Use a hand drill or drill press to drill a hole in the top center of your box. This will be the 'handle' for your clutch.
Step 4: Cut Door Knob
The bolt at the end of the door knob will be too long for the clutch. I used a dremel to cut the bolt. Make sure you cut it short enough so it doesn't stick down in the clutch, but keep it long enough so you can put it through the clutch and still fit the nut on it.
Quick tip! Keep the nut on the bolt when your cutting, that way you can easily take the nut off and it will still fit the bolt. If you don't do this and try to put the nut back on after cutting the bolt it wont fit.
[This picture is a recreation of something I did a couple weeks ago, that is why the bolt is short]
Step 5: Attach Door Knob
Put the bolt on the knob through the hole you drilled in the box and screw the nut on the inside of the box. You now how a functioning transparent clutch!

No offense intended, but a transparent clutch is not the most secure way to store your drivers license or credit card. Maybe you could create some kind of dispenser to store those in?

you could make a smaller one to fit inside one for your money and cards

Reminds me of the bag my wife had to use over 40 years ago at the department store she worked at. If a woman wanted to bring in items from her purse she had to transfer them to a clear bag so security could make sure they didn't leave the floor with store goods.

Ha Ha! Before I opened this, I thought it was clutch as in motor-clutch-gearbox. : D

Nice design, but I doubt this can be good for personal security - muggers can see what they'll be stealing...

Love it. The one in the link with the ceramic Knob, really appeals. Thanks for this it's now up to me what I make of it. Love it.

Lining the inside with a bit of decorative paper would add a bit of privacy and still leave it looking interesting

Perhaps adding a chain strap? (I know its a clutch, but they often have a chain strap stashed away inside if you need it)
also, it might make it seem more like a bag, and less like a box you happen to keep stuff in.
