This craft is customizable, easy to create, and a great accessory for anyone willing to up their hair game. This scrunchie can be any color or size you would like and makes a great gift for your friends.

Note

This pattern can be adjusted to be more or less 'scrunched' up by simply adding more length to or increasing the width of the crochet tube.

Supplies

  • 6.5 MM Crochet Hook (This size can be found on your yarn packaging)
  • Velvet Yarn of Choice
  • Scissors
  • Hair Elastic of choice
  • Yarn needle

Step 1: Step 1: Creating the Slip Knot and Chain

To start this project one must first make a slip knot. To do this, take your yarn and wrap it around your nondominant hand, cross the end of your yarn over the top to make an X. Then push the yarn through the first loop and pull. Tighten with your hook and you have a crochet slip knot.

To determine how thick your scrunchie will be one will create a series of chain stitches to the desired width. To create a chain you wrap the yarn around your hook and pull the loop through the existing loop on your hook. For this example, I chained 7 stitches.

To connect to the hair tie one simply wraps their yarn through the elastic and pull through the previous stitch. This will create a circle that will be the base of the tube

Step 2: Step 2: Crochet

To stitch the tube begin by wrapping yarn around your hook. You should now have 2 loops on your hook. With these loops insert your hook into the next stitch making sure to go under 2 loops. You should now have 4 loops on your hook. Wrap yarn around the end of your hook and slide it through all 4 loops. This will be repeated for the remainder of your tube. Continue to stretch out your hair tie and check the level of scrunch you have achieved.

Step 3: Step 3: Finishing

Once your scrunchie tube is as long as you would like it, cut off around 4 inches of yarn and tie a knot. Thread your needle and stitch up the two ends of your tube into a beautiful velvet donut.

You are done! Go show off your new wrist and hair accessory!
