Vintage Spool Valentine DIY

Introduction: Vintage Spool Valentine DIY

Use a vintage spool as your Valentine this year!

Step 1: You'll Need:

You'll need:
A vintage spool-- or any type of spool will do.  Even a small dowel cut to the size you desire will work.
A button-- red looks cute.
Paper-- I used some thrifted adding machine tape and then cut it to fit.
Tape--  I used some Japanese floral tape, but any tape will work.
String-- I used hemp twine
Heart Bead--if you wish
Glue--to glue the string and button to the top of the spool.

Step 2:

Write your love note, poem, song lyrics (I wrote The Cure's Love Song lyrics) on the paper.  Tape it to the spool.
Apply glue to the button and secure the string underneath it.
Roll up the paper on the spool and wrap the string around it.  Secure.

Step 3: Give It With a BIG SMOOCH!

Tie it up!
For a special Valentine.
Give it with a BIG SMOOCH!

Nice idea... was thinking that you could use this for those little trinkets that you bring home from weddings and put a little love saying along with the bride and groom's name, date of wedding, etc.... Even as a take home gift from a birthday party or invitiation... lots of ideas pop into my head when I saw this :D

Thanks for the idea! I raided my wife's craft room (usually a good way to get in trouble) and used some of her fancy scissors, stamps, etc., but if I had to do it again, I would stay closer to your design rather than trying to be too fancy. Some changes I made were to wrap the spool in red paper stamped with hearts, trimming the message paper with special scissors to make a scalloped type edge, a heart shaped button on top, and the addition of a Claddagh charm to the ribbon that holds my paper in place. I also added a scroll with the meaning of the Claddagh symbols inside the spool.
