Introduction: WS2812B Light Panels
Hi, today I gonna show you how to make your LED panels like the nanoleafs.
For this project you need:
- Some plexiglas (40% translucent)
- 12x WS2812 LEDs & 12x 100nF Capacitor (SMD 0805(2012)) per Panel (or you can also use led strips: 60 LEDs/m)
- 5V power supply
- Some M3x6 screws and nuts
- Aluminium Tape / Foil
- Thick paper
- Silicone & glue stick & glue
- Some 3 pin wire
- 3.3V voltage regulator
- ESP-01 module
- Some filament for the 3d printer
Tools:
- 3D printer
- soldering Iron
Step 1: The Construction
As my other designs, my led panels are very simple.
You use only a few parts to build this. The Assmenly is also ver easy.
The panel itself consists of 2 3d printed parts, a piece of plexiglas, 3PCBs and a cover made out of paper and aluminium foil for a better refelction.
Step 2: The PCB
After designing my panels in SolidWorks I used Eagle to create my own PCBs.
The PCB design is very simple it contains 4 WS2812B LEDs and 4 100nF capacitors.
Here can you find the gerber files: https://www.dropbox.com/s/l3juqe3xxvhm0qd/LED_PCB....
After designing my PCB I orderd it on JLCPCB with a thickness of 1mm and with white soldermask.
I ordered the LEDs and the capacitors at LCSC for a very good price.
Step 3: 3D Printing
After the design phase I started to print the parts with 3d printer and white PLA Filament.
For both parts I used a layer thickness of 0.2mm, 30% of infill and for case you have to use support material.
Step 4: The Frontplate
My frontplates are laser cutted from 2mm thick plexiglas (40% translucent).
But you can also cut it by yourself.
I addition to plexiglas you can also use thin polystyrol panels.
