Introduction: Warm Fleece Blanket

Did you ever feel that the blanket you use is too small or not enough warm?
During the winter,I always enjoy nice warm evening watching movies under a blanket. Bigger blanket for two, makes the watching even more enjoyable.
This patchwork fleece blanket is big enough even for taller ones. Feel free to change colours, sizes, cloths...
Lets get started.

Step 1: Plan

Prepare the plan.

The front side of the blanket is patchwork, rear side is plain colour. Here, 6 colours of fleece cloth were used. For final size of 245 cm x 145 cm ,each colour of 100 cm x 145 cm wide and additional one colour for rear side 250 cm x 145 cm wide. Equilateral triangles with 17,5 cm x 17,5 cmx 17,5 cm sides were used based on the plan here, three times the paper draft was repeated for the front side.

Also more colours can be used, just make sure that they are of the same quality.

When the colours are chosen prepare a small scale draft on the paper. I used 6 rows each containing 20 triangles glued to a paper.

Step 2: Cutting the Triangles

Here comes the nice part of cutting the triangles.

I tried both ways, cutting the rows with height of the triangles and just cutting the sides based on angles, or with a plastic model cutting directly. (This plastic model was cut out from a plastic board by metal scissors in a workshop, but later I found out that patchwork rulers with equilateral triangles are available, or patchwork rulers with predefined angles are also suitable.)

Step 3: Sewing the Rows

Based on the plan, join the triangles from rear side with pins and sew them together. The width of the sewing is per width of the sewing machine foot. (straight stitch ,position of needle /width 2,5). When all the triangles formed the row, mark it and do the same to prepare other rows.

Step 4: Sewing the Rows Together

Based on the plan, join the rows together with pins. Similarly to a step before, sew them together to form the pattern.

Step 5: Adding the Rear Side

When the front is ready, cut out the edges, to form the rectangle. Attach the rear side with pins and sew it from the inner side out. Make a small non-sewed part to be used as a hole to turn the inside part out. Finally sew by hand the remaining part and the blanket is ready for use.
Enjoy its warmth.

Thanks for stopping by.
