Introduction: Watercolour Starfish
Create simple but elegant watercolour starfish by following these simple steps.
Step 1: Sketch the Starfirsh
Lightly sketch a starfish onto watercolour paper. It is very important that you use actual watercolour paper for this project.
Step 2: Add the Background
The pallet for your background will be blue and green. Dilute the colours with water and use a wash technique to fill in your background. Very important: Let the painting dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Add Detail to the Background
Once your first layer has dried completely, you can add more paint and add detail. Very important: Let the painting dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 4: Fill in the Starfish
Use a sandy colour fill in the starfish.
Very important: Let the painting dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 5: Add Detail to the Starfish
Add shading and detail to your starfish. To get the technique featured above, you will need to put a small droplet of diluted paint and let it dry completely. As it dries it will form the ring effect. Use different values of your original sandy colour to create dimension.
