Introduction: Yellow Limoncello
In Italy, they serve Limoncello in the evening. It is a nice refreshing lemon liquor served at the end of a delicious meal. I have never found a good limoncello in the US so I did some research then took bits and pieces of various recipes to come up with a simple yet delicious version you can make at home.
Step 1: Materials
For this delicious concoction you will need 5 lemons, 1 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 cups vodka, 2 cups of water, 2 liter pitcher, knife, cutting board, strainer, and a bowl.
Step 2: Cut Yellow Peel
Wash and dry the 5 lemons then carefully cut off yellow part of the peel. Only cut the yellow part not the white pith as that will make your drink bitter.
Step 3: Add Peels and Vodka Then Wait
Add all the peels to the 2 liter pitcher. Measure out 2 cups of vodka and add to the pitcher as well. Cover and let set out at room temperature for 3 days.
Step 4: Strain Out Peels
After 3 days, pour contents through a strainer into a bowl to remove peels then return liquid to the pitcher.
Step 5: Simple Syrup
Create a simple syrup by warming up 2 cups water in the microwave. Then add 1 1/4 cup sugar to the bowl of warm water, stirring solution until sugar is completely dissolved. Note: Water does not need to boil, warming the water helps dissolve the sugar faster.
Step 6: Add Simple Syrup and Rerigerate
Add the simple syrup to the pitcher with the lemon vodka solution. Cover pitcher and refrigerate for 3-4 hours prior to serving.
Step 7: Pour and Enjoy
Once chilled, pour and enjoy a taste of Italy!
Step 8: Creamy Limoncello
For a nice alternative, add 1 teaspoon of half and half to your limoncello shot for a creamy, lemony treat!
